The Old City neighborhood's Indian offering in the form of Karma doesn't disappoint. While the 'tandoor' fare is the mother of all comfort foods, Lamb Chettinad and Chicken Do Pyaaza are succulent albeit spicy. Vegetarians also have an array—Saag Paneer, Bend it like Karma, Navrattan Korma and more. Papadams and Raita as sidedishes compliment the meal perfectly. There's also an impressive list of wines (whites and reds).

so incredibly disappointing – I had heard a lot of good things bout Karma, but was incredibly disappointed after having dinner there. Service was only average at best, and the staff was unfriendly. Food was not good, aside from the samosa. I've been to enough Indian restaurants to say that I've def had better. The only plus I can think of is the ambience which is better than most Indian restaurants in the area. Dont think I will be back anytime and I dont think anybody is missing anything if they havent been here.
Best Indian Food in Town – I have always been disappointed by the lack of Indian food in Philadelphia. The only choice we used to have in Center City was Cafe Spice, but I didn't think Cafe Spice was as good as the restaurants in LA and Chicago. Last week my family went to Karma, and we were pleasantly surprised! The food tasted good, the service was great, and price was even better! (I even recognized the person who took our order was the owner.) The only suggestion I have on the food is that they should braise the lamb a l... read more
Finally, One place to find best Indian food – Karma is the best.... I have tried many restaurants but if you are looking for an authentic Indian cusine then Karma should be your first choice. It has excellent service and a great staff. It has a diverse Menu which brings most of Indian favorite dishes in one place. You can try appeasing Lamb Chops called as "Gulnar Rack of Lamb" as a starter, "Chicken Tikka Masala" and "Bend it like Karma - a cauliflower and potato in combination with herbs" from the Main Kitchen. I had great... read more
Indian restaurant with a class – I really enjoyed dining at Karma. Friendly service, unique menu, awesome food would definitely bring me and my family back soon. I have tried several others in the area but nothing beats Karma.
Anomaly? – I had a reservation on a Saturday, showed up 5 minutes early, finally got seated 40 minutes later. No apologies were offered until we actually complained. Once we were seated, the food was great and the service was quick. However, by the time we were drinking our coffee, they told us twice that the restaurant was closing (note they seated us 35 minutes late). I would highly recommend take-out only. They need to work on their customer service.
below average – I read all the reviews and went to Karma ,previously called Shivnanda.Great disappointment!! Cramped up room with very average food with fancy names.take it from me guys.. there are much better retaurants...try An Indian Affair on Main in Manayunk if you want good food.
Karma must be Indian Food Nirvana – This is the very first Indian restaurant I have dined at in Philadelphia. Although parking in Old City is difficult, dining at Karma is worth the effort. The service was very welcoming and friendly. The interior decor was trendy but not so much that it is distracting. We ordered Lukhimi Samosa and Naan for starters. The Samosa was scrumptious! Then for the main course we had the Chickan Tikka Masala and Chicken Vindaloo. I haven't had Indian food in years but I felt I was in heaven when I ... read more
Beautiful ambience and different food – In most of the indian resturants you get almost same kind of run of the mill menu. In this restaurant I found very unique creations of dishes. Tandoori Cauliflower was out of the world. I was made to understand that the owner of the resaurant is a wharton alumni and is seeking to bring in new ideas into his business. He has bought in very creative and award winning cook to implement those ideas. I happened to go to Karma restaurant in New Jersey and when I saw the menu I knew it was a ... read more
An Explosion of Taste – If you like good food, this place is amazing. If you like Indian food and are in Philly, this is simply a must do. I visit Philly on business 1-2 times a month and love entertaining at the Karma. The rack of lamb is to die for and the vegetarian dishes are simply unbelievable. Take a taxi. Parking is a problem. I believe that they now have valet parking as well. Dont miss it!
