You think the outside is bad? Try working there! I started working for van aken last year and can't even begin to tell you how horrible it was. If you think the outside is bad, try working in the back!!! There are NEEDLES left all over the place for one!!! I was appalled at that! It's such a safety hazard to the animals. I didn't have too many problems with Dr. Johnsen but I''ve seen her curse everyone out numerous times and tell them how stupid and useless they are as employees. FILTHY building, insane vet! I found a feral kitty right before Christmas of '09. 'Big King' was starved, had ringworm all over him, and had an eyeball that was severely infected. Dr. Johnsen saw him, did a quick skin test, estimated his age for me and then told me to bring him back when he was cleared of the skin infection and had put on some weight so she could neuter him and take the eyeball out. Well meaning but filthy I applied for a job at this clinic around 2006 and worked there for one day. If you think the parts you can see are dirty you wouldn't believe the parts you can't see. It looks like an episode of Hoarders in places in the back. It stinks like disease and the contagious animals (a huge numbers of Parvo cases come through there) are not well separated from the others. Van Aken Pet Hospital is THE WORST!!! My kitty Jack was taken there to get his first set of shots, to get fixed and to have surgery on his gums...they did a good job when it came to the surgery, but other than that, I have nothing else good to say about this clinic. The clinic seemed dirty, the parking(what parking?), the staff was not out going or friendly, and Dr. Johnson is my worst complaint...she was not friendly, and never looked me in the eye when talking to me about Jack's care. My Dad, Dr. Van Aken Van Aken Pet Hospital started in the 1960's by Dr. Warner B. Van Aken. For all those that remember, Dr. Van Aken was an amazing healer. Cost was negotiable because healing and saving a life was more important. My dad is now 87 and living with me in Jacksonville, OR. We lost my mother and his wife, Jean Van Aken, who was, also, the life blood of the hospital. It is a living testament to my father that the clinic is still called Van Aken Pet Hospital. Eww DIRTY! This place was so dirty I could not believe it was a Vet's office! There was an older female working the front desk that was loud and rude. Someone was there to put their dog down and there was NO compassion for these poor people whatsoever. She kept talking about the cots of putting th dog down as if it were just a thing and no big deal. She was hyper and I was embarrassed for her. The wait was over an hour.
