Editorial fromOne rich risotto ably introduces Incanto: stringy calf's brains, blood sausage and chicken thigh bits clinging to rice dusted brown with fragrant cinnamon. A fundamental food group in "la cucina povera," offal may go by the name "nasty…

Very Nice – Went there with another couple and we loved it. The place had the buzz of a downtown joint right in the hood. Thats' nice because the commute is easier. Too bad there is no valet parking or something. Great wine list and knowledgeable servers. Excellent food. Not a cheap, quiet neghborhood place, but that's OK. Will shoot for reservations in the back room next time as it seems more intimate and quiet/private.
Sublime food & wine; perfect service – This is an update to a prior review I posted. I've now eaten at Incanto several times, and each time have been more impressed with the "total package." As some reviewers have noted, the menu does not offer an "ad infinitum" number of choices, which I feel is a plus - it is a thoughtful menu, and having tried a number of the appetizers and entrees, I have yet to be disappointed. The calibre of both preparation, presentation and service is top-notch. Having travelled a fair amount in Ital... read more
WAY OVERRATED!! – My boyfriend & I had dinner here recently. There was 1 veggie entree which didn't sound appetizing so I asked for substitutions. The waitress suggested the penned minus the meat which I went for. Needless to say, it was totally flavorless and completely unimaginative. Gross is a compliment to this pasta. The waitress finally came back after about 20 minutes and I told her how dissatisfied I was but she didn't offer any suggestions or apologize. She just said that that's the way it is minus the meat! I could... read more
I've had better – The decor is very nice...the wine pretty good as well, but time we went for a birthday, our waiter seemed irritated with our table..probably because we were a party of 10?? Also, they need a bigger variety on their menu..only one chicken dish and not much for a vegan if they want to go and try your food.
good addition for Noe – I can't really say anything bad about the food, but we didn't come away doing cartwheels. There were not many unusual items on the menu and our server, while professional, rarely smiled. We shared the sardine appetizer, which came on top of a wonderful frisee salad. I ordered the lemon pasta with petrale sole. The fish was tender and the pasta al dente. Of the desserts, try the olive oil cake, which is really moist and served with a great zabaglione sauce. The current risotto tart was a little more un... read more
Inventive food, wonderful service – A wonderful new addition to Noe Valley. We had a wonderful dinner here. The waitress was extremely knowledgeable about our wine; service was helpful and attentive but never intrusive. Desserts were out of this world. We'll be coming back!
high quality wine, quality find – The wine selection here was fantastic, and the wait staff was very helpful both in the selection of entrees and the wine itself. The food varied from your "standard" Italian fare of pasta in red sauce, but the menu was inventive, and the cannoli was superb.
unenchanted – I really hate to give a negative review. BUT Incanto just doesnt live up to its gorgeous interior. Appetizerz like tomatos and buffalo mozzarella were boring at best and the roast chicken was weakly spiced and dry. If your going to do this kind of food in SF you have to try lots harder. Dessert was decent but again just standard. If you want good italian in Noe Valley got to Bacco. Service started out good but went downhill quickly. The wine list is nice but insultingly overpriced.
Uncooked Penne – Read the positive review in Chronicle, and as I am a Noe Valley resident, I decided to give it a try. Not impressed..seem to have paid more attention to exterior and interior structural improvements than getting food right. Had an average appetizer, decent bottle of wine for 50 bucks, and for the main course I had a slab of salmon adequately done and my girlfriend has penne, which was prepared unimaginatively and undercooked. Well undercooked. Would have done better saving a few bucks on the stone work on ou... read more
