Ellis County Honor Flight Honor Flight National has numerous hubs operating all across the United States with a common goal, that is: to take as many of the remaining WWII veterans as possible to Washington to see the WWII Memorial before it is too late. We are losing 1000+ each day of these heroes from the "Greatest Generation". They and their families served and sacrificed so we as a nation can continue to enjoy the freedoms we have today. I had the honor 6 years ago to bear colors at the home coming of an honor flight in Chicago most amazing experience ever!!! This is a GREAT program!
My Dad and I went in 2009 from Rapid City,SD. He was a WW11 veteran and would have been unable to afford to make this trip. Thanks to Honor Flight, he and I had an awesome 3 day adventure. He was a man of few words but after we arrived back home I made a photobook for him which he showed to everyone. It was an experience I think of often, he is gone now but at least he was able to see HIS memorial. He lays at rest now at Black HIlls National Cemetery near Sturgis,SD. Till we meet again, Dad.
I will have the honor of being my dad's guardian for his Honor flight in April. He is a WWII Veteran and served in North Africa and Italy. I get teary eyed just thinking about how much this is going to mean to him, and the honor of getting to experience this with him! Thank you so much for what you do for our Veterans! Such an awesome tribute for their sacrifice, it shows they are not forgotten! Thank you!
