The Hippodrome Theatre is the centerpiece of theFrance-Merrick Performing Arts Center, holding all of the center's shows. Located just three blocks away from the University of Maryland, this performing arts theater is a true gem of the city. This Vaudeville theater was built in 1914 and designed by Thomas White Lamb, one of the most prominent theater architects of his time. Over the years the theater went through various transformations, from a movie theater to a performing arts venue that it is today.

Always a fabulous, incredible time doing anything at this beautiful venue !!!
Pros - awesome, authentic old school venue. Full of charisma and warm acoustics. Plenty of parking nearby. Relatively easy access from the highway and major roads. Cons - what a difference a year makes. Two of our old favorite restaurants nearby shut down. The homeless population nearby has substantially grown. These observations are less a review of the venue and more a concern for the neighborhood.
Fantastic Venue. Staff were beyond helpful and friendly and the Theater itself was stunningly beautiful. Overall...a fantastic experience and one that was thoroughly enjoyed by my 15 year old son and myself.
The building and decor is really nice. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the concession service was extremely slow, with long lines to get a beverage. I waited 15 min to try and get a soda during intermission and had to get out of line, without a drink, to go back in the theatre because they were starting the second half of the show.
I've been a season ticket holder for about 10 years. Over the years we have moved to several different areas of the theater e.g. Inner Circle , Orchestra Section, Grand Suites. We have been Grand Suite subscribers for 4 years and our seats are roomy, comfortable and have an excellent view of the stage. They are pricey but well worth that for the experience.
David Blain show - The auditorium got very warm, the air conditioning system is not good at all. All the seats are on such a slight incline if you are not super tall you have no chance of seeing the show. The video overhead was continually splitting or getting pexeliated. Also the bartender's are really bad, they don't explain drink prices correctly and way over charge, they get easily frustrated and don't know how to make simple drinks. How hard is a vodka club soda with a splash of roses lime?
