About this business

The Hippodrome Theatre is the centerpiece of theFrance-Merrick Performing Arts Center, holding all of the center's shows. Located just three blocks away from the University of Maryland, this performing arts theater is a true gem of the city. This Vaudeville theater was built in 1914 and designed by Thomas White Lamb, one of the most prominent theater architects of his time. Over the years the theater went through various transformations, from a movie theater to a performing arts venue that it is today.

We love being subscribers! But today’s show was so very hot. It was distracting and when I mentioned it to the usher, I was told to go out in the lobby to cool down. Thanks? That’s not a great way to see the show I paid extra to see!

It’s the only venue in Baltimore for broadway plays. As a subscriber on Tuesday nights it would be better to start the plays at 7pm. Most plays like the King and I are too long. What ever happened to the days when the play was 2 hours with a 15 minute intermission. There are a lot of boring sections though out the play that could be better done, shortened or cut out completely. I love live plays, even better than movies but stop adding things that are irrelevant to the story.

Great shows! Seats are a little tight for tall folks but well worth the price for Broadway caliber shows.

The seats and legroom are horrible!

The balcony has no leg room to speak of. God forbid there's ever a fire, hundreds of people will die due to lack of room to get out quickly. The view was fantastic, don't get me wrong, but for anyone larger than medium I recommend avoiding the balcony.
