Worth the wait – Been going there for decades. Still the best value in the area. There is so much fish being eaten, the fish is always fresh. long wait, cash only.......get over it.

good sushi – Nice place to eat good quality sushi w/ friends. If I'm not in a hurry, I would definitely go back again.

Great sushi deal – This place is reasonably priced, and the food is very good. Also, it's not intimidating like some of the higher-end sushi-only places. Unagi is always exceptionally tasty. My non-sushi favorite is the scallop dynamite--yummmmm!!!! The wait can be long, but that's part of the fun (although on Friday night, it's way too long).

Great Sushi, Affordable prices. – Hide Sushi is wonderful! My boyfriend and I wandered into this restaurant about a month ago. We were pleasantly surprised by the freshness of the sashimi and sushi and the thickness of the cuts (not paper-thin, but not too thick). I highly recommend the hirame (halibut), hamachi (yellow tail tuna), and sake (salmon). All were fresh, buttery, and tender (not mushy). We also ordered tempura which was just OK (I must admit I'm extremely picky with my tempura because my grandmother makes THE bes... read more

Good food, But.... – I have been eating here since early 80s when they were located next to the garden supply place on Sawtelle (Now I am really dating myself.) The food has always been better than good, some times exceptional but never below good, and that is a lot to be said about a sushi place. But in the past few years, the other stuff has made eating here almost not worth it. First of all, the wait is horrendous (sometimes 60-90 minutes), second, they close so early, so in summer time, better be hungry at 7:00. To make ... read more

There's a reason why it's so packed – Man this place is great... if all you want is a some real sushi, and you don't really care about all the other fluff, then this is the place for you. Okay, so the dishware is kinda worn... but it's what's served on them that counts! There are no fancy rolls and stuff, but the fish there is awesome. I tried most of the fish on the menu and they are delicous... they have such buttery hamachi... the maguro and scallops taste so fresh. Unagi came out hot from the oven, and perfectly tender a... read more

Simple, Fresh Sushi (no fluff) – My family and I have been going to Hide Sushi for more years than I care to count. It's a place that satisfies my traditional Japanese parents palatte (ex: Chirashi) as well as my Japanese-American taste buds. Their lunch specials with tempura and teriyaki beef/chicken are excellent for those with non-fish eating friends as well. This place is small, cozy (30-40 seats) and well-priced for its high quality fish. The seat selection process (i.e. a whiteboard where you fill in the number of peop... read more

amazing spicy scallop roll! – hide sushi is a great place for a mellow night of good sushi. with its bright lights and bare decor, this is a place that is more about the food than the ambience (though everyone there is very friendly, adding to the enjoyable dining experience). their fish is always very fresh (the salmon is excellent), and their spicy scallop sushi/roll is so good that i hesitate to order it anywhere else because it just never is as good.

worth the wait? – The sushi is good - fresh, basic stuff. It was crowded when we went (9pm on a Thursday). We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table and wound up sitting at the bar. My vegetarian friend loved his roll, better than the avocado roll he usually winds up with at other places. I don't live in the 'hood so I don't know if I'd drive all the way to the west side just to eat here. It ain't THAT great. But if I lived nearby I'd be there all the time.
