In June of 1963, Nicolas Kalcanides came to the United States from Greece with his wife, Irene, and two children, Steven & Helen. In August of 1968, after working for 5 years at his hot dog stand, Nicolas opened up Helen's Pizza, naming it after his daughter. The entire family worked to keep the pizzeria growing. Helen's Pizza quickly became known for it's warm, friendly atmosphere and quality pizza for only $0.15 per slice. In 1985, Helen's Pizza was passed on to Nicolas's son, Steven. I ordered from Helens on seamless and used a coupon deal. I spent about $45 including tip and delivery fees and for the coupon to activate you spend $30 to get a 10” margarita pizza. They brought the food, over cooked noodles and mediocre meat sauce, just not very good. Worst part, they forgot the pizza. I called and the manager said she would send it, then called back 30 minutes later to say she wouldn’t because she did not see it on her copy of my receipt. She said it was my fault and there wasn’t anything she could do. Te... read more
Excellent slice shop. Made my first time in Jersey City that much more enjoyable. Great location in the city as well.
Customer for 10 years. The old guy, who is usually in the back, should never be allowed to talk to customers. One encounter with him made me stop being a customer. It’s a shame because I like the place and the rest of staff. Every week we would get two pick up orders and then a large pie on weekends. Every week over a 100 bucks to Helen’s. $5200 bucks a year for 10 years. But the old guy was horrible to me and to his staff that day.
Ordered the chicken parm pizza. What I got was actually a day old cheese pizza with some fresh cheese and even less chicken cutlet on it. I wish I could attach the photo I took. You could literally tell it was old pizza, they didn't even bother trying to cover it up. I thought you know what. Maybe their pizza just looks ugly as hell. Maybe it tastes good. I took a few bites and I couldn't even finish a full slice. Because guess what? IT TASTES LIKE OLD SHITTY PIZZA. Thank you Helen's for ruining pizza for me. Thank you.
Only the best !
Really good pizza, it's been years since I ordered from there. But if I'm around the area I will definitely be eating there again.
