My mother worked out front and got me a job in the back hand washing the baking pans. This was around 1967...the bakers were Hans and Schultz...if I recall...2 german gentlemen. I take home a carton of whip cream every now and then to enjoy at home....
Haegele’s conjures up some very happy memories from my childhood. Leaving church and being told we were getting donuts was a treat tantamount to Christmas morning. Cream filled donuts, butter cake and sticky buns slathered in butter were a feast. The hardest part was being required to finish our home cooked breakfast before we could indulge. When I walk into this place with the classic glass display cases, smells and equally important box of goodies wrapped in string I’m a child again.

We dont live in the area anymore but make the drive for all special occasions! Will be ordering two Black Forest Cakes before the end of this month. Their Strawberry Shortcake is the best! So hard to choose. The jelly sticks rarely make it home. Never had a bad cake in over 60 years!
