Groovy Automotive

About this business

Home of the Groovy MechanicsTM Back in July 1993, two mechanics founded Groovy Automotive with the objective of bringing back the "honest, neighborhood garage". The down to earth atmosphere & musician-mechanics at Groovy Automotive earned it the slogan "Home of the Groovy Mechanics", and this outlook works well with the community spirit in Austin. We have locations all around Austin which provide immediate access from the university, downtown and IH-35. Principals The principals of the corporation are all native Austinites w... read more

Bad Reviews are bogus It appears that the most of the poor reviews are coming from the used car dealer that Groovy had rented some space to. the dealer was upset that they had to move out, and has been posting these false reviews

Do Not Use These Guys Over $1000 for new struts, not correct parts. Car drove poorly. Took it back. Charged $50 to look at it again. Still drove poorly. i.e. extremely out of balance wheel on front. I don't think they ever looked at it cause it was parked in the same place I left it. Took it back. Wanted to charge me another $50. Told me it was after market wheels, tires... on and on. These guys know all the CONS and you will not get treated fair. After three tries, I gave up. UT is a cash cow for them. They do not need repe... read more

Overcharge and Provide Unequal Service There are few things worse than having to spend a few hundred dollars you've worked hard to save up on a car problem that's unexpected and beyond your control. One of those things is learning after the fact that you were overcharged. In this case, there were some problems with my brakes that I paid about $500 to Groovy Automotive this weekend to have fixed. I've since learned from 3 different people who are more knowledgeable about cars than I that there is no way a problem with brakes ... read more

Groovy Automotive is not capable of fixing proteges, only breaking them I took my Mazda protege in for a oil change, and it never drove the same. Driving away my car started to stall, and every time I came to a stop after that. They broke the hose that feeds my engine. It was fine when I got there, but when I left it wasn't. Then they told me that I had to pay for the part, but that they would give it to me at cost. Thanks, when you did it. My friend also drives a protege and they did the same thing to her.

STAY AWAY I had Groovy Automotive do three repairs in the last year. All three times I had to go back at least once to get belts tightened that they didn't tighten. I got the timing belt replaced. It was misadjusted when I left the shop, after they had my car for four days. I got the power steering entirely replaced. For that I had to go back three times for replacement parts. Two of the repairs 'required' them to keep my car three days or more. (Which is an average of five days for each repair.) It's not like they don't kno... read more

Not the best When I first took my car to groovy auto, it seemed really cool and the staff sounded nice. However they strung me along with repairs, until I had paid out over $1500 to have all the problem fixed. Finally they said the engine would have to be replaced for more then the car was worth. I was out one car, and groovy auto didn't seem to care.
