This rating is due to possible bias and general incompetence by the people who are ranting about this organization being unfair and unfit to judge this award. Some people just fail to see that there are more categories than just average punt yards. It's great that Townsend can boot the ball an average of 48.5 yards; however, another stat is the average return yards or net yards for each punt. This rating is due to possible bias and general incompetence by the Augusta Sports Council in the selection of the Ray Guy Award, supposedly given to the top punter in college football each year. In 2016, Johnny Townsend from the University of Florida led the NCAA with 47.9 yards per punt. He was NOT a finalist (top 3) for the 2016 Ray Guy Award. In 2017, Townsend has so far improved his stats, with 48.5 yards per punt. He is currently 2nd in the category after leading it most of the season. Yet he is not even a semifinalist... read more
