On our first visit to Portland, my husband and I tried the Chowder House and sat outside on the patio. The BEST clam chowder I have ever had! Will definitely be going back!
Probably the best chowder I’ve ever had. Our waitress was outstanding.
We got a Lobster Roll, Lobster Stew, and Calamari for laughable prices. Service wasn't too bad, but it did take a while to be taken care of initially. We left lunch still hungry due to the tiny portions that they charge far too much money for, and feeling sick.
The lobster roll felt like a half portion size. It was bread and lobster and a packet of cheap mayonaise, nothing else - felt like it was missing something. Definitely felt like they took me for a ride. Wife's lobster bisque didn't have any flavor either so we both left hungry, disappointed, and 55$ lighter.

We don't like to have any unhappy customers. Our lobster rolls and lobster stew are usually very popular. We try hard to keep things right. Sorry you we're disappointed.
OK, love the ambiance, very good service/friendly. But, found the chowder base really lacking, no flavor, quite potato-pasty. Up your game with a tasty chowder to honor such a great setting in an awesome city.
