I think the overall goal is admirable but blindfolding someone with full sight for 60 seconds and asking them to do routine tasks is not only misleading, it's unethical. Those of us who are blind can do amazing things -- we raise children, care for our homes, work, attend college, play, laugh, and love. Your #howIseeit campaign, though with good intentions, perpetuates the fear of being blind, the stigma associated with vision loss, and the myth that those who are blind are to be pitied. I tried several times to create my ow... read more

This absurd #HowISeeIt campaign is a terrible idea, let's some people untrained and uneducated in being blind into situations they are unprepared for and then act surprised that they ill equipped to deal with those situations. I know, let's put Americans who only speak English in Chechnya and have them figure it out....

A campaign to raise money for research should use the voices and visuals of those it aims to help. Blindfolding a sighted person is offensive to the blind and does not accurately portray the reality of capable competent individuals who are blind. Change the ad campaign.

I am a sighted personal with lots of blind friends and family who live day to day without the fear and inability that this challenge implies comes with blindness. The research you are undergoing is helpful and beneficial absolutely, but the means to get the awareness out is truly disrespectful to the thousands of blind individuals who get up and live their life just like the sighted rest of us each day.

I am glad Foundation Fighting Blindness is working to conduct important research on retinal issues. However, the #HowEyeSeeIt campaign undermines this work by being offensive, inaccurate, and hurtful to the very individuals it seeks to help. Please suspend #HowEyeSeeIt immediately if you truly care to help those who fight blindness everyday!

The howeyeseeit challenge is extremely offensive to blind people. I am the daughter of two totally blind parents and they were able to do everything that anyone with sight does -play with me at the park, take me to school, cook dinner, work and own a home....this campaign is reinforcing stereotypes that blind people can't care for their children and work. The challenge is socially irresponsible and should be stopped immediately.
