Experience pizza bliss in a slice of hand-tossed, fresh baked, cheesy New York-style pizza pie. Get a pizza to go, if you cannot stop at a slice or two. This hole-in-the-wall pizzeria, a longtime Northwest Portland landmark, lends a neighborly feel to the art of pizza inhaling. Lucky patrons will find an open table outside on the sidewalk. Beverages such as beer, soda and sparkling water are available. Peruse the eclectic decor or people watch while munching on slice number two or three.

Great Pizza – Walking down 23rd and just catching a whiff of good pizza is enough to drive anyone wild. They'll heat up your slice and get you on your way to having truly authentic new york pizza. They've got different kinds each day and I just can't choose a favorite. The pizza speaks for itself give it a try.
Best NY pizza outside of NY – I discovered Escape From New York Pizza years ago, when I came to visit my sister here in Portland. I was born in NY, and lived there for the first third of my life, as such I think I know what NY pizza should taste like. Now let me just say that, Escape From New York, is the closest thing I have ever tasted, to true NY pizza, anywhere in the country. I strongly recommend that anyone who is in the area, who desires NY pizza, eat here. It's just like getting a slice in Soho.
Pizza fine, ethics not – The pizza is good, not amazing. I don't really want to go back because I heard one of the guys who works there (the owner, I think??) told a customer "we don't serve your kind of people here". It doesn't really matter what they were. Discrimination is not okay.
The quality doesn't justify the service – This place is indeed a landmark of Northwest Portland, and exemplifies the area well. The servers are elitist and pretentious and feel that they can be rude to you because you should be grateful they're allowing you the opportunity to eat their pizza. This isn't SoupNazi quality stuff we're talking about here. The pizza is ok, but you can get virtually exactly the same pie at Dante's without the attitude. Even though I live seven blocks from the place, I still go out of my way to eat... read more
keeping the NW in pizza – Escape from New York Pizza is a place where pizza, politics and personalities have merged to give us a NW landmark. When I was a little kid NW 23rd used to be Escape from New York, Kornblatts and a few thrift shop type places and the William Temple House; and while the rest of 23rd has transformed, Escape has always been there. They have pizza's of the day, a calander quoting Phil's (he either part owns it or is good friends with the owner) endless opinions, and really fresh New York style pizza. It... read more
Best Pizza in town – The only pizza I like better in the world is Mineo's on Murray Ave in Pittsburgh. Phil is a wonderful sob, with a sharp wit and tongue. I miss living in NW Portland.
This is no NY pizza – What happened? We had not had EFNY Pizza in some time and decided to get a pie to go last week. We arrived on time and it wasn't ready. Okay, I'll let that go. I took my first bite and regretted it immediately. There is absolutely no flavor to this pizza anymore. Within two months their pizza went from ok to really bad. The dough had so much flour on the bottom, and the dough itself... well I would have rather eaten the cardboard box. The sauce no longer has any flavor either. Now I know authentic NY pi... read more
Pizza like the East Coast? – Well, I went here during my lunch at work once and it was an OK experience. The pizza is served fast, and it is very affordable. The employees were nice, and their pizza slices were generous. I would recommend it if you want quick food, but it wasn't the best IMO.
Better by the pie! – This pizza joint is the best on 23rd. Slices always available with cheap beer. The best deal though? Buy the whole pie. It is guaranteed fresh with the topings you want, and it's piping hot. Worth the walk if you have trouble with parking. Fun New York decor as well!
