Experience pizza bliss in a slice of hand-tossed, fresh baked, cheesy New York-style pizza pie. Get a pizza to go, if you cannot stop at a slice or two. This hole-in-the-wall pizzeria, a longtime Northwest Portland landmark, lends a neighborly feel to the art of pizza inhaling. Lucky patrons will find an open table outside on the sidewalk. Beverages such as beer, soda and sparkling water are available. Peruse the eclectic decor or people watch while munching on slice number two or three.

It's just pizza... – It's pizza. It's not great. It's not terrible. Better than rocko's, worse than Schmizza. The staff is a bunch of jerks and their inability to take cards is annoying. They have good beers. Try it if you want, but there are 4 or 5 better places within walking distance. I think people are taking this whole authentic NY pizza stuff way way too seriously. Never trust someone who says you can't get a good slice outside of _____. It's ridiculous and they're obviously biased. For the most part, pizza is pizza. T... read more
rude rude rude. bad service, didn't even get to order – So, I called to order 2 pizzas for myself and some friends for pickup. The guy was extrememly rude off the bat. I asked him if they had any specialty pizzas; greek, veggie, meatlover style, whatever. He said "what do you want?" "Um, do you have any specialties" I asked again. "I heard that you guys make awesome pizza." His response was, "Look we offer the basic toppings. Call back when you know what you want." We had been on the phone for less than 30 seconds. Well I wa... read more
Attitude? Eh, deal with it. One of the best slices in town! – When I first signed up for this CitySearch account, I did so out of frustration from sites like Craigslist other CitySearch reviews. One of the first reviews I wanted to post was for Escape From New York. It has been my neighborhood slice for ten years. Indeed, it was my first Portland slice, and I will discount immediately any argument on whether it is authentic New York or not. What is Escape? It is one of my favorite little pleasures. It's a huge, greasy, goopy... read more
Best Pizza I've had in the Portland area. – The closest better pizza is "The Rock" (2 locations, Lacey and Tacoma), but then again they don't make anything similar to The Rock's "Bad To The Bone." Their pepperoni pizzas are pretty close.
great enviroment good pizza – I eat alot of pizza and i think escape has good pie it you get a whole pizza and not by the slice. although its not just the pizza that i enjoy about escape its the people who work there they are so unique. also while your eating your pie you can check out the money wall or some other doo dad on the wall. Escape is just an all around good pizza place.
It's just a slice of pie, folks... – Well, this isn't the "best pizza in the world"; that depends on you and how your day went. It is my favorite pie in Portland about 6 days out of 10. (3 other days, I'll prefer Pizzacato, and 1 pizza day out of 10, I'll wish I were in another city.) NYC pizza is not one thing - there are a zillion varieties, and, amazingly enough, there are people who are regulars at every joint. For instance, there's Patsy's, which is "world famous." Well, which one? The Patsy's in East Harlem is great; t... read more
Not that great. – Everyone told me how great this place was, then I went there and got a slice. What a disappointment! It was the blandest pizza I'd ever had. I don't think these people have ever had a real NYC slice of pizza. Tribute's Pizza on NW 23rd and NW Kearney is far better! Go there instead.
Just Plain Woderful! – I never knew just how much I liked pizza until a friend introduced me to the wonders of "Escape From New York" pizza. Now this is NOT your thick-crusted-toppings-piled-high style of pizza (which, BTW, you can find at the very good "Flying Pie Pizzeria") but rather is a thin crust authentic New York style pizza. The crust and sauce is undoubtedly the best I've ever tasted and the toppings are first rate and are added in quantities that are just right; enough to make the pie tasty WITHOUT interfering wit... read more
best pizza by the slice served up by local enthusiasts – great place to grab a slice of pizza while you walk and window shop. Only ever has three kinds to choose from, but each one is excellent. Whole pies are Huge and a good deal.
