Escape From New York Pizza

4.5

About this business

Experience pizza bliss in a slice of hand-tossed, fresh baked, cheesy New York-style pizza pie. Get a pizza to go, if you cannot stop at a slice or two. This hole-in-the-wall pizzeria, a longtime Northwest Portland landmark, lends a neighborly feel to the art of pizza inhaling. Lucky patrons will find an open table outside on the sidewalk. Beverages such as beer, soda and sparkling water are available. Peruse the eclectic decor or people watch while munching on slice number two or three.

Worst service EVER! – I see my friend has already posted, but I thought I'd chime in as well. I was out with my friend for her birthday and this was the place she chose. The guy who helped us was a complete as*hole. Maybe he thought he was being funny, but if that's his idea of customer service....I'll never go back. If it would have been my birthday, I would have told him his an as*hole and walked out. I asked if I could get an extra topping and was told "no". Really? You don't add toppings to pizza? I'm sorry you didn't ha... read more

Great pizza rude service – I tell my girlfriend we gotta go down to NW Portland thinking she might appreciate the ambience. Its the summer and all. I tell her about this great pizza place she's gotta try. Well let me just say that you better load up the tip jar first thing regardless or suffer. So the guy behind the counter is just kinda glaring at me for not kicking down a big tip for bad service. The pizza was in the glass case, he put it on a paper plate and he handed it to us. Go to back to school and learn some job skil... read more

Heath Code Violators, Terrible Service – First, the service is ridiculously bad. Every time I went to this place (which wasn't very many because of these reasons), I would walk in and stand by the counter waiting for 5 minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge I was even there - with NOBODY else in line, only 2-4 people eating in the lobby, and 2 so-called employees chatting it up behind the counter 3 feet away. They force you to be the a-hole and interrupt their conversation to ask them to do their job. The real reason for... read more

Bunch of conceded pricks that know how to make pizza . . . – Well, This is the MOST delicious pizza in Portland, hands down. The service however is seriously lacking. I have had SEVERAL negative experiences with the owner. One where I went inside to pick up my pizza after ordering it and sitting outside, when the pizza was 15 minutes late I went inside to check on the status he repeatedly called me fitzF*#KER, volume increasing with each utterance of the offense. "Yeah, I called you for your pizza Fitzpatrick. But I didn't s... read more

NOT NY PIZZA – I wouldn't vote for Escape from NY if they were the last option! Their pizza sucks! Not only is it bad but it is NOT from NY and I know because I lived there for years. When I moved back to Portland I was excited to go here and remember how great NY pizza is but I was SO disappointed. I almost asked for my money back it was so bad. I don't remember the pizza being so bad before I moved to NY but hey, maybe I never knew what good was???? ;)

Abusive behavior from employees is not okay. – After having been a loyal customer for years, I decided to take my boyfriend in for a slice. It was hot, we were hungry, and I was stoked to see that the lighting inside was gorgeous through the windows (I'm an amateur photographer). He ordered a slice from a really fat guy with a bald head behind the counter and paid for our food and drinks with minimal hassle. The guy wasn't friendly or helpful and had a general rude demeanor, but we just ignored it because we like the pizza. ... read more

Truely Authentic NY Pizza with no BS. – I grew up in NY and know pizza. NY pizza is meant to be pretty simple. Which too many West Coasters complain about. They think its about the toppings that make a pizza which is the exact opposite. Without a great crust your just not going to have a great pizza. These guys honestly make a pizza that rivals the best pizzas in NY. I promise. The service and decor is what you'll get back east too. Very basic cafeteria looking decor and service with little or no smile or convo. I don't care... read more
