About this business

Vintage photographs of family members provide a charming ambiance. Due in part to the location, this restaurant enjoys a great deal of popularity with artists and business people alike. Outdoor seating is tempting in fair weather. Traditional Tex-Mex dominates the menu, but an unusual alternative is available in the form of Mollejitas, or sweetbreads. Of course, they are not for the faint of heart, so order with caution and enjoy. Finish off your meal with some sopapillas or flan.

I've got 2 words for you... – CRAB ENCHILADAS!!!! A perfect meal is the rice and beans and crab enchiladas!! OK and a margarita or two. But the crab enchiladas. Have I mentioned just how much I love them. I go to El Tiempo quite frequently and I can't tell you about anything else on the menu because I've never gotten past the CRAB ENCHILADAS.

2 is the absolute limit! – These are wonderful ritas!!! The BEST! Food is a little overpriced for what you get - still, fills you up and stuffs you! The shrimp are outstanding. So-so on the enchiladas. Very good guacamole. Waiters barely speak english and are very nice.

The Laurenzos have done it again – I invited some friends of mine to meet up with me for happy hour and dinner to follow at El Tiempo. The best-looking happy hour crowd in Houston, Period! I have found my favorite Margarita and fajitas in town. You cannot miss the authentic Mexican breakfast. It is a really great value for the buck-the portions are huge. The service is warm and consistent.

HOLD ON TIGHT!! – Strongest Margarita in Town!! The cups are small but one is enough!! My husband is 6'4", 215lbs, not a light weight, is all giggles after one of these bad boys!! Not to mention their faijtas are killer!!!

Prepared with TLC – El Tiempo moved into the old Dixie Road House and thereby saved us some driving. Best is the grilled quail. But the sauces and meats taste like somebody is cooking back there who really enjoys cooking.

Poor quality – The food at El Tiempo Cantina -Richmond location- varies from bad to inedible. The fajitas were rubbery and dry, the flavor was below average. The fish taco was inedible; the fish meat was probably several days old (it smelled like old fish). The enchiladas were about 80% cheese and 20% sauce and tortillas; and the cheese was not 'queso fresco'.

Avoid I-10, Downtown is good Review of El Tiempo Cantina by LarryBrown October 05, 2002 Remember, I'll almost eat Alpo without noticing. We went to the fancy and impressive looking El Tiempo Cantina on I-10 around Blalock. Inedible! I had a combo platter that featured about 5 items, I couldn't eat a single one. I just left it there on the plate. I didn't even let my wife pack it up to take home. Later I went out with the guys from work downtown and they took me to El Tiempo Cantina there. That was much better! Actually prett... read more
