The Nature Center is the crown jewel of the pristine American River woodlands. There are several self-guided hiking trails such as the Observation Trail, which winds through oak groves to culminate with a sweeping view of the river. The center maintains a sanctuary for rescued wild animals. The park has history and cultural programs as well as programs on the environment. The gift shop has historical trinkets, books, and more.

I have lived in the Sacramento are for over 40 years and have visited Effie Yeaw Nature Center for all of that time! I went there as a young adult to enjoy the trails and museum. I took my daughter there as she was growing up. I take my students there on annual field trips. I seek out the center now for what I call "nature therapy". Being an avid photographer, I go there to take pictures as well as walk and meditate. It is truly a gift to find such a beautiful and serene spot within a suburban/urban area! Had our 3rd grade field trip here the kids just finished up animal classifications and the guides incorporated all the language of animal classifications in with the hike and inside on the tour they ran it so well and had so much enthusiasm and great information for the kids!!!
We had a great time with our grandkids. There was lots for them to do and learn about native Americans and the nature of the place. They were free to run about and do things.
I call Effie Yeah Nature Center and the Ancil Hoffman Park my slice of Paradise. I run weekly on the beautiful trails, I bike and hike with our kids, and we visit the Nature center often. The deer, the coyotes, the turkeys, and all the birds make this place new every time you visit, as you never know what animals you encounter. We are so fortunate to have such a beautiful and mystical place in the heart of Carmichael.A true jewel! Love it every time, every season, and forever!
Its a fun place to take your family and friends to learn about nature.
