Best Indian food in Portland, Period – I have been trying various food at various Indian restuarants for many years now. Some started off well only to descent to being awful. I have finally found the ONE Indian restuarant I have always been looking for. Great food, great taste, great service and continues to maintain that consistency. You should try the Onion Kulcha, Chicken Korma combination and the Samosa chat for appetizer. Nothing beats that. What I really like about this place and the guy who manages this place is alway... read more
Not your average Indian food – I have been searching for a good Indian restuarant in Portland and I have finally found it. East India Company is a great place to have really gourmet Indian food. The prices are a little higher than the average Indian restaurant but it is worth it. We have been several times and the food has always been excellent. The service is a little slow but when your meal comes you will forget about that. Highly recommend the Laziz Palian (lamb chops) or the Murg Makhani (butter chicken) and the nans and... read more
Disappointment – I spent all day today, trying to find a good Indian restaurant, so my mom and I can have a nice dinner. After reading the reviews, decided to go with East Indian Co. What a mistake that was. Service: I?ve traveled the world, but never experienced service as bad as this one. We were ignored by the waitress at the bar. At last, we decided to just go into the dining room, where we spent some more time waiting for some one to pay attention to us. The waitress (from the bar), has finally noticed us, but the tone ... read more
Very nice Indian food. – I have to admit I don't have the best associations with the phrase "East India Company" so I was reluctant to try it. But once I did I was very happy. I was there at lunch, so I don't know what the dinner menu is like yet. The service was attentive, refills arrived promptly, dishes were tasty and well described by the waiter when we had questions. The food was not heavy on the clarified butter, which was a nice change of pace from the other downtown Indian lunch places. The sauces were bold but had s... read more
everything was fabulous – my fiance and i kind of just stumbled upon this place but what a find. the atmosphere is awesome, very relaxed, even romantic. nice touch with the curtains on the booths. the wait staff and supporting staff are very friendly, helpful, and professional. i myself work in the restaurant industry and was very impressed. i also felt that the food was very reasonably priced considering how delicious it was. my only complaint was about the side of veggies that came with the meal, it tasted like it was cann... read more
Autenthic Indian Food experience – I am a frequent client at East Indian company.I enjoy taking business clients and friends there.Love the service.Very punctual and pleasant. These folks are so warm and friendly.Food quality is out of this World. Finally Portland got a classy Indian restaurant. My favorite is their Viceroy lunch menu.It is so balanced. The mutton Kebab and vegetabe curry is fantastic.I take fish kebabs also regularly.
Horrible service at lunch – I was so excited to learn of a new Indian restaurant in portland and even more so after reading the reviews. We decided to go for lunch and I couldn't have been more disappointed. The lunch menu was limited and after we were seated we waited for an hour for our main course. Several people who came in after us had already eaten and left by the time our food finally came. After an hour and a half we still did not have the dessert that was supposed to come with our meal so we finally just left. The s... read more
much awaited, good indian dining – finally!!! i can take my non-indian friends to an indian restaurant and feel good about it. portland's all other indian restaurant(except bombay cricket club) are really bad - really. they are what taco bell is for "mexican dining". this one is classy, excellent food and service and an ambience which is more like what better restraurants in india are like. go ahead and enjoy. i wish it was a little less pricier..but still worth it.
Best Indian Food In Portland – Every time I visit larger cities (NYC, San Francisco, etc.) I always make a point of trying to dine at a good Indian restaurant. The reason? I have been totally dissatisfied with Portland's selection of Indian restaurants. Sure, Bombay Cricket Club isn't bad, Vindalhoo has some Indian influences, India House is OK, and Swaggat is passable, but nothing really seemed like it was that good. Until now. THANK YOU East India for opening! East India has a very small store front - there is a narrow bar... read more
