New twist on Indian food, but can't bring myself to go back! – Up until the point when we saw the bartender stir my drink with a straw, take a sip, and then place it on the counter for the waitress to deliver.... we were having a lovely evening! Can you say NASTY?! He wouldn't own up to it but we both watched him because I had waited about 20 minutes for the drink. The drink that I did have before dinner was an unfortunate mess - VERY VERY sweet. Now if you are going only for the food. I would recommend this place. Especiall... read more
Overpriced average Indian food – Well, When our food came out My boyfriend and I looked at each other and started laughing. Our portions were so small. We are not big eaters as it is and we were so shocked. It was not bad food it was good a bit gentrified for our taste. Don't recommend.
Flavorful authentic Indian food. Customized a fixed menu! Great Sevice! – I have dined a few times at East India Co. They make their drinks virgin for non-alcoholics like me. I am Indian and this is authentic Indian food. It is flavorful and they use good quality materials to make their dishes. I am sure that the Basmati rice they use is one of the best available and it reflects in the food they make. We were a party of three that went for a lunch buffet. The restaurant had a fixed menu for lunch but when it saw that the thr... read more
Some of the best Indian food in Portland – East India Company really is quite wonderful, and I'm always surprised more people aren't familiar with it. It has a rather unassuming facade, and is easy to miss when driving by, but inside it's an easy and elegant space. The food puts a couple of creative twists on some more traditional dishes, but what clearly sets the restaurant apart is the quality of the ingredients and the care of preparation. The meat dishes with sauce I've had have all been very flavorful, on the less spicy... read more
Best Indian food in Portland, Period – I have been trying various food at various Indian restuarants for many years now. Some started off well only to descent to being awful. I have finally found the ONE Indian restuarant I have always been looking for. Great food, great taste, great service and continues to maintain that consistency. You should try the Onion Kulcha, Chicken Korma combination and the Samosa chat for appetizer. Nothing beats that. What I really like about this place and the guy who manages this place is alway... read more
Not your average Indian food – I have been searching for a good Indian restuarant in Portland and I have finally found it. East India Company is a great place to have really gourmet Indian food. The prices are a little higher than the average Indian restaurant but it is worth it. We have been several times and the food has always been excellent. The service is a little slow but when your meal comes you will forget about that. Highly recommend the Laziz Palian (lamb chops) or the Murg Makhani (butter chicken) and the nans and... read more
Disappointment – I spent all day today, trying to find a good Indian restaurant, so my mom and I can have a nice dinner. After reading the reviews, decided to go with East Indian Co. What a mistake that was. Service: I?ve traveled the world, but never experienced service as bad as this one. We were ignored by the waitress at the bar. At last, we decided to just go into the dining room, where we spent some more time waiting for some one to pay attention to us. The waitress (from the bar), has finally noticed us, but the tone ... read more
Very nice Indian food. – I have to admit I don't have the best associations with the phrase "East India Company" so I was reluctant to try it. But once I did I was very happy. I was there at lunch, so I don't know what the dinner menu is like yet. The service was attentive, refills arrived promptly, dishes were tasty and well described by the waiter when we had questions. The food was not heavy on the clarified butter, which was a nice change of pace from the other downtown Indian lunch places. The sauces were bold but had s... read more
everything was fabulous – my fiance and i kind of just stumbled upon this place but what a find. the atmosphere is awesome, very relaxed, even romantic. nice touch with the curtains on the booths. the wait staff and supporting staff are very friendly, helpful, and professional. i myself work in the restaurant industry and was very impressed. i also felt that the food was very reasonably priced considering how delicious it was. my only complaint was about the side of veggies that came with the meal, it tasted like it was cann... read more
