Wonderful - the best in Portland, hands down – We've been to East India Company on several occasions and have loved it every time. Having tried Indian food all over the world (India, UK, NY), I can honestly say this is among the best. The food was DELICOUS, the ambiance was wonderful, and the whole staff was very friendly and accomodatnig. We have loved every minute of every experience and can't wait to go back. This is our new go-to place for Indian food and we highly reccomend it to anyone!
Tarnished Copper – I withheld any judgment on this restaurant since its opening to give it time to grow. From my first taste at EIC I was very impressed with the food, the ambiance, and the hospitality. I had high hopes for the new Indian food restaurant however, after my most recent visit I have found that all the above have lost their luster. The food quality and presentation have diminished greatly and the hospitality, especially in the area of the management staff, is horrible. The wait staff still seem very friendly and... read more
Hmmm, not so great – Beautiful interior and the meal was good - not great, but good. The wine list was poor and the recommended wine was awful. I'm not a huge wine and Indian food person, but nonetheless have a decent list. What amazed me the most and ruined the evening was, at 10:15pm (they serve until 10pm), with several tables still in the restaurant, they turned the lights up - like last call at a bar. I felt like I was in a Walmart. It was super tacky. I expected them to start vacuuming. It is hard for me to recommend t... read more
Business response:
We regret the incidence and have instructed the staff to exercise better judgement. We would be happy if you can e-mail some suggestions for wines to carry at info@eastindiacopdx.com.
Very Bad Manager – We just visited this restaurant yesterday. Waitress and Ambience were good. Food was also ok (if not superb). But the manager picked a fight with us. We (a group of 11 people) ordered 4-5 different types of breads. The waitress politely asked us do we want our bread mixed or separate. We agreed to be separate. But when the bread came, manager came starting talking why we are odering separate. Not only this, he again came back and said that "if we serve you all the baskets, what we will serve others". Then ... read more

Phenominal Indian Food – Finally an Indian restaraunt that is great! The service, the food, nothing can compare. They are the only ones who have Paneer Tika. I was very impressed in the staff, not only were they concerned that what was ordered was acceptable, but knew the menu and recommended items. The pakora, the vindaloo, the desserts, phenominal.
Best Indian Food in Portland! – I am in complete awe of this place! It is fantastic in design, food, service, AND is reasonably priced! In the past three weeks, I have dined here 6 times. I went because I love Indian food and find Portland only has one or two "decent" places to eat Indian. I was pleasently surprised by the great menu and even more surprised by the amazing food! This past weekend I had a group of 12 meet me there and they did a great job and didn't mind splitting the bill 6 ways. The Saag Paneer is my all tim... read more
Great addition to Portland – My daughter and I went to the East India Company last week and were pleasantly surprised . When we arrived, the hostess opened the door for us as we came in from outside and took our coats to hang up. We were seated in the quiet, understated yet elegant restaurant, and given a chance to look at the menu. The vegetable biryani that we had that evening was delicious and unique subtly flavored, with different flavors, that merged together in my mouth. The naan was soft with a delicate crispness, and... read more
Romantic even on Mondays! – We ended up here after our first and second choices were closed on Mondays. What luck! You ever feel like something is meant "to be" when you find parking right away? We had three happy hour appetizers. They were a little oily but overall delicious. The fish fingerlings are marinated in lemon and ginger and were interestingly chewy little bites. The potato croquettes came with delicious mango chutney. Our entrees were superb. East India Co. is a little more expensive than say, Swagat, but the qual... read more
Good Americanized Indian - Not for Real Indian Food though – We went for an early dinner to try out a new Indian restaurant in Portland. As someone who has spent time in India and has spent plenty of dinners at the home of Indians getting food at a restaurant that can mimic the flavors of real Indian food is a constant quest. We tried their Samosa Chat, and crab cakes (yes never heard of crab cakes at an Indian restaurant). The Samosa's were somewhat bland and the chole that it was served with was just very slightly spicy, n... read more
