I would not recommend this doctor, and I use that term loosely , to my worst enemy. she was cold, attempted to diagnosis me after 10 minutes and put me on medications. I told her how I felt and she quickly got increasingly aggressive to the point of my having to de-escalate the situation and leave the appointment. She displayed zero ability to connect for a therapeutic working relationship
Ok until she loses her temper. Not patient, especially with patients that aren't "easy" and have difficulties with medications, continuing mental health issues, etc. Wants to spend 15 minutes managing medications and get you on your way - don't ask for more. Dismissive of and occasionally abusive to patients. Only pros: takes insurance, responds to emergencies.
I am really surprised she has poor reviews. My teen daughter has seen Dr Patel for a few months and she's been wonderful. Thoughtful, not overly eager to medicate. And she's been excellent in her follow up care. She is one of the few Psychiatrists who accepts insurance in the area and although her wait time can be a bit long, she's present and actively listen when you are in her office. I really think she's great.
Dr. Smita Patel is unprofessional and rude. By far, the worst experience I have had with a medical professional. After a very unprofessional and unwarranted confrontation by Dr. Patel, I decided to cancel future appointments and seek a psychiatrist that is trustworthy, honest, and professional.
Rushed 10 minute appointments, she left the impression that she was not very interested in my case. I would not recommend anyone to see her for treatment. During my last visit she could not even explain the medication that she recommended to me.
Hands down the worst experience I've ever had with any medical professional. I went to her after my former psychiatrist went out of network for me, and I saw her for almost two years before I was finally able to find someone new. In that time she changed my medication 5 times, even when I was feeling stable, told me I was experiencing symptoms I wasn't experiencing, insisted on taking me off meds that worked well for me, and told me to snap out of a major depressive episode.
