used him a few times (2 hips, 1 partial knee, 1 full knee) but this last time with the full knee was not the quality of care we had known from mercy for quite a few years. Mercy itself is a great hospital & the staff are absolutely amazing. This knee surgery back in November ended up getting a staph infection (not entirely blaming Dr hungerford for that) & he was very attentive to begin with but the last couple check ups have left a very disappointing taste….. he claims to have not had a single infection issue in I believe h... read more
I would not recommend Dr Hungerford. Overall Mercy Doctors are friendly, compassionate, care about patients and outcomes, and a few even have great sense of humor. I’m am very sorry to say Dr Hungerford exhibits none of those qualities. He may be a brilliant surgeon but appears only interested in surgery. He has little time to spend with you. The Hospital has built a staff around him to address this, from the receptionist , his PA’s, and Doctors who support him, but when he pops in, it may be for just a few minutes or as lit... read more
Had my initial appointment with the DR and it was not good. Didn’t even introduce himself, never explained to me about my x-rays, never asked if I had any questions. I had a general sense that he didn’t even care and seemed busy showing off for another doctor who was present. I will not go back to him and will go to an orthopedic doctor most likely in the John Hopkins or AAMC health system. His style is not conducive to gaining trust with his patients.
No issues with my surgery
Absolutely not. He is noncomunicative, has no bedside manners, and provided virtually no follow up after my simultaneous double knee replacement, which he recommended, although I had serious complications. He could not be reached for pain pill refills, and the painkiller dosages were inadequate. As a result, I had to be hospitalized again for pain management. (I was totally off painkillers a month after the surgery., no thanks to him. after I stopped the pain meds cold turkey.)The extreme, inadequately medicated, pain I suff... read more
Dr. Hungerford performed a partial (medial) knee replacement on my left knee. His surgical skill (combined with his experience using Makoplasty) resulted in what appears to be precise placement. I am pain-free and can honestly say it feels natural - it does not feel as if there is a foreign object in my knee. The deep bone-on-bone medial knee pain I had (pre-op) was gone immediately after surgery. I was able to work with my PT to gradually/carefully rebuild my strength and flexibility as the tissues and nerves healed from th... read more
This is my second surgery with Dr. Hungerford. He isn’t very warm and engaging. His skilled hands and his ability to keep up with the current practices was essential to my speedy recovery. There were 7 years between surgeries. I really appreciated the updated procedures. I recently recommended him to my husband.
Two year follow-up for joint replacements.
Was very pleased with the information provided before the surgery. There was always an answer to any questions I had. I felt prepared on surgery day. Post-op time at the hospital was good. I had good information and was prepared for my recuperation time at home.
