Great Service, Excellent Music Venue, Fab Food and Drinks! – I eat out all the time in Portland, and i love the Doug Fir. I often stop by for breakfast on the weekdays, my current favorite dish being the La Luna scramble, but the french toast is also delicisious! lunch is good with the standout Fir Burger (i like the choice of Buffalo), and i always come early to a show, my favorite music venue, so i can grab some dinner. I am totally in LOVE with the Doug Fir Crunchy Trout! try it, you will not be dissapointed! with regards... read more
Terrible dining experience – I've eaten at Doug Fir several times, for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The service is always pretty bad and the food is mediocre. Recently 6 of us went for dinner and were made to wait 30 minutes for a table in a half-empty dining room. Then as she was seating us, the server said we would all have to pay on one check and that 20% gratuity would be added automatically. We found this pretty tacky since we hadn't asked about it. Or if she was going to tell us, she should have said it in the first pl... read more
a star fallen – when the fir first opened, we were dubious of it's sleek sky-lab design and pretty tough customers on our first visit, critiquing the food and drink harshly...however, we were pleasantly surprised. the drinks were inventive and yummy, the happy hour menu solid, and the onion rings were AMAZING. recently, it's fallen from grace in a big way. maybe they're getting lazy given the notoriety, but the food this past time was salty, gooey (the etouffee, eeeeesh), and overall completely disappointing. even the onion ... read more
Were the servers trained? – We stopped into The Doug Fir one Sunday for a nice lunch. We had family from out of town and thought they would really dig it. The service was extremely slow - dissapearing after getting our drinks. We had a bloody mary spilled on us, a meal dropped onto our table off the plate, and servers who seemed to not know how to wait tables. Nothing was done to make up for the horrible service and when we asked if they were going to do something they laughed and walked away....that's right, laughed and wal... read more
See Dahlia – and the rest is icing, baby! Wish I lived closer I would be there for all the shows. Its a great venue, with good taste in food, entertainers, and staff. Groovy.
nice retro atmo and really good food Good, satisfying diner fare, order something with blueberries, you won't regret it. Good service, Guiness on the menu, music down in the lounge, what more could you ask for? Great casual date spot.
Hipster waiters lack basic manners. – Sadly, despite the cool decor and architectural design, the service in this over-priced restaurant will leave you with a very bad taste in your mouth. Etiquette, and common sense, would be the desired ingredients for happy customers and great tips. They should buy the staff some with the money they charge for mediocre food. Don't fall for the hype. Go for drinks in the bar but skip the sitting-down-to-eat part.
Restaurant seemed just fine to me – I went here with my boyfriend a few months ago for dinner. He had a cocktail which he said was quite tasty. I got the turkey (moist and flavorful) and mashed potatoes (fluffy) which left me satisfied. I haven't been to the bar or attended any shows here, but it was a cool place to hang out and get some grub. We'll definitely be back for cocktails and enormous onion rings.
College break hangout – I have been to the DougFir twice. Either I have impecably bad timing or it's a place for college kids to hang out when on break or out of school. I am in my early thirties and I felt old!! Food was fine though and service was friendly when they could whittle their way through the crowd to you.
