It Just Rocks! – I am always amused at the people who say they're going out to have a good time, when in fact all they do is complain about every little, miniscule detail about how something could have been better. Oh My God! You mean you went to a BAR and there were random conversations going on?!?! NO, it cannot be!!! Yes, you're in public. Most conversations that occur...ESPECIALLY in bars... are going to be within earshot of you no matter WHERE you're sitting. Get over it. I for one think those are the best times. You en... read more

Professionalism – I have been a customer at Doug Fir for several years. My wife and I come into Doug Fir weekly for an evening cocktail and lately have been coming in for brunch on the weekends. As a restaurant/bar owner myself I enjoy dining out as often as possible. I read City Search restaurant reviews weekly, not only my own but others similar, a smart business owner keeps in touch with his customers and his competitors customers. This morning I came across the negative review of a certain bartender at Dour Fir. I had to... read more

Why thank you!! – Being the narcissist that I am, I decided to google my own name and workplace and--low and behold!!--up comes a scathing review of little old me. Consider me flattered. Dmaclevy, I remember you, and I have a hefty tip for you as well: Bloody Mary's are spicy. Always. Especially if made correctly. The DF's are made with PEPPAR vodka, which I specifically asked if you wanted being that the four of you looked so....vanella, and you assured me that you did. You have obviously confused Bloody's with something a ... read more

I always have fun at the Doug Fir – So my husband and I have been visiting the Doug Fir lounge since opening day, and have always had a great time. While I don't consider myself "musically savvy" there always seems to be a hoppin music scene down in the lounge. We recently were served by the same bartender mentioned below, (Mel) and she kicked major assss. She's fast as hell and always has a good story to tell, though if you like your bartenders meek and quiet, she probably isn't the best choice for you. It would seem that t... read more

Great Food, Anti-Customer Service oriented – Lunch Saturday: Amidst the torrent of swearing including calling co-worker a "silly Fa**ott", I overhear female bartender "Mel" tell other customer "it's not unusual for customers to be told to F*** Off by a Doug Fir employee." Breakfast Sunday: Order 4 Bloody Mary's, pay $7.50 each! Get change specifically to leave a large tip for this same bartender, possibly to avoid her wrath. The mix has so much horseradish that it burns my throat with every sip, and I usually order "Hot" at ... read more

Can we get our drinks please? – I went to the Doug Fir for a nice dinner with everyone from my work. We had a table of 11 people occupying the fireplace room, and were waiting and waiting to get our drinks. The restraunts wasnt' even that busy, 3 couples ate around us and the barteneder was bringing drinks straight to their table. My boss asked the waiter if we could get drinks, and they said we would have to go straight to the bar. That is ridiculous. With such a large party and obviously large bill, we should at least get ... read more

Mixed feelings. – Based on a one-time experience eating, drinking and catching a show. Upon entry the doorguy was nice. good. the service was nicer than i expected stepping into a place that is sooooooo trying to be hip. I personally prefer the understated "hip" but you do have to love all the detail in the place. It is a 50's diner/log cabin/chi-chi hipster cocktail of design. The crowd was bizarre though. Wanna be yuppies from the hotel (not even real yuppies!), frat boys, a couple hipsters, a handful of middle-aged drunks... read more

thank you, thank you, thank you! – finally a great joint opens in Portland, and its on the East side! The coolest looking restaurant and bar in town? Doug Fir! the best new music venue in town? Doug Fir Lounge (the club/music venue in the basement - check it out)! A great place to eat, thats open 7am to 4am (how cool is that!?! and the food is great; kinda faux fancy Americam style and affordable)? Doug Fir! A place where you can sip a killer fancy schmancy cocktail, or get a $3.50 well drink in an all smoke-free, amazingly ... read more

Works for us – went there with friend for lunch and it was just fine. The food was good, not fine dining but they don't say they are. Service was what you would expect.
