Our Business Goal To educate the general public on the historical geology of the Appalachian Mountains, how they were formed and what can be found here. Doc's Rocks Gem Mine is an Appalachian Mountain based gemstone mining operation. We purchase mine ore by the ton from local gemstone mines located in North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia and Tennessee. We decided to go here on a whim after reading the reviews as we were in town for an overnight trip. It was so much fun! We loved sifting through the dirt to find what lay beneath. We were almost tempted to get another bucket, but decided to save it till our next trip to the area. All of the staff was very welcoming, and Quinn was super helpful! It's fun for all ages, and we're definitely coming back!
We have been coming here for years now and have always had a wonderful experience. Doc and his wife along with the rest of their staff have taken great care of us and we have found some amazing stones - as well as learned a lot about gemology and identifying stones. We make this a destination every time we come up here and won't go anywhere else. The fossil and mineral museum is also really cool and the folks up there really know the material. Great learning experience for any age.
My daughter and I went yesterday and we had the greatest time! The staff were extremely nice and seemed very knowledgeable. We will definitely add it to our list of places we always stop when we visit Blowing Rock!
