The oldest Italian restaurant in the United States exists right in the heart of the Italian Market District. Traditional, exceptionally delicious and well-priced homemade dishes, along with their 20-ounce veal chop and their specialty Osso Buco, make this a 'must stop'. Come dine in a charming old world parlor atmosphere of yesterday. Private room for parties are also available at Dante and Luigi's.

Not worth the $$$$$ – This place is cash only so make sure you bring plenty of money because the lasagna is 18 bucks and that doesn't include a salad. A glass of wine is over 7 bucks. The food is OK, but I have had better for much less and the decor and service also leaves something to be desired. If you have more money than you know what to do with make sure you ask for a table that is NOT in the bar - it has linoleum floors and looks like someone?s garage.
Great old time Italian, white tablecloth restaurant – Dante & Luigi's is a superb place to go when you really have a jones for some traditional Italian-American fare. The service is always highly attentive and can border on being a bit overbearing. But the food is always enjoyable and it is always a pleasant place to go.
OutRageous Price Gougers – This was the worst italian restaurant I have ever eaten at. And we have been to many many many in Philadelphia. The food was below average. I have had better in the "Chain" places. Also, the bar tab was ridiculous. Where can you find below average foodthat is very moderately priced and then have an after dinner cordial for 11.67? Dante & Luigi's. We were a party of six had a good evening until we got the bill. At the bottom of the bill was $70. We assumed that they had added gratuity. But the waite... read more
Great Gravy – Food, service, & menu choices were excellent. One of the best Marinara sauces I've ever had! Appetizers and desert were special.
Since 1899, authentic Italian fare and warm atmosphere have given this South Philly favorite citywide appeal. – In Short Sunny pastel colors lend a Mediterranean trattoria feel to the two dining rooms. White linens on the table are soon covered with large plates of food, while attentive servers makes sure your water glass is always full. This is the kind of place where they still call tomato sauce "gravy" and they don't skimp on the portions. Osso buco, served with vegetable risotto, is tender and hearty--worth having even i... read more
A gem – You have to love the restaurants in South Phila. We go to a different one every time we go to the city and seldom repeat, but this one is worth a second trip. Excellent food, service and atmosphere. We like the very small restaurants where the staff will take the time to talk to you. This restaurant is slightly larger than the small ones we enjoy, however you never would have known it from the way we were treated. Highly reccomended -
Disappointing..... – The dining area that we were seated in appeared to be a converted basement. It was dim and drafty, with cold cemented walls. The window "decorations" looked like cheap junk from a flea market. About my meal: the house salad was good (but how can you really screw up a salad?) My entee of fettuicine w/ alfredo was just ok. The alfredo sauce was a bit too thin. My companion ordered fish that was overcooked to the point of being hard. Both portions were pretty small. The service was good even though the we w... read more
Phenomenal – I love italian food and I have been all over the tri-state area looking for the best Italian restaurant, and I think that I have finally found it. Beautiful inside, including the Restroom.
listen for specials and bring cash. – i have to say, the food was delicious - but it wasn't any amazing shakes. it is a nice little "hole in the wall place" - at least around 6-8 when my boyfriend and i ate there - to take a date for a quiet night out. their service was attentive, perhaps a little too attentive. we werent done eating our caprese and the plates were whisked out from under us. listen carefully to the specials because they are phenominal. all together a great little place to grab a moderately priced yet savory ... read more
