I'm a local and visit this airport often. It stinks. Dated/tiny/filthy restrooms and absolutely no WiFi outside airline lounges. It's definitely a relic from years gone by and the state hasn't spent much effort on updates. My guests frequently complain about it and comment that even the airport in Kabul must be superior. Sadly there's also very little "aloha" spirit among the staff. Get just through it as quickly as you can. Hawaii should be embarrassed.
Talk about fast an efficient. Out baggage was checked and we were off to customs. We were in and out in only a few minutes. Granted there are not a lot of shops like Melbourne if you're into that sort of thing, but very clean. I don't think there are many airports left were you can sit and watch arrivals without a window in your face. Takes me back to the old Tullamarine days.

Got to the airport three hours before my flight and barely made it to my flight. I waited half an hour for a shuttle at the hertz rental and then almost an hour in the security line. Once I boarded the flight everyone was forced to wait on the airplane for over half an hour because the tower crew was running behind. If you have a choice, don't choose this airport.
