Lets try this again – I remember this place when it first opened and it seemed to me that service was a lot more tentative. Over all a good experience, just need to be somewhat patient with the staff. If you enjoy trying new and fun things this is the place to go.
Fun atmosphere and service – I enjoy this location much better than the one on Washington. It feels less retail-ish. The service has almost always been good here. I can't say much about the food since I normally eat before I come. Some people say it's too expensive here but what do you expect when you get classiness? Cheap? Nice atmosphere, good wine, and good service do not equal cheap prices. I just wish we had more wine venues in the NW part of Houston. This is a great place if I'm in the area.
Overall seemingly good service, but parking a pain – Note: Myself and friends visit many wine venues around town and Cova (on Kirby) is probably one of our favorites. We don't like Cova on Washington that much because it feels more like a retail shop and like C*rkscrew up the road, the bums asking for money gets old. I want to marry the Cova Chefs!!!! – I've heard wonderful things about this place, but I'm the type of person that if you talk something up to me so much, I will usually be dissapointed. Not the case for Cova Hand Selected Wines. I don't know a thing about wine, but the servers were very pacient and helped me select the perfect pairings to go with my food. Valet Service – As far as the restaurant and bar is concerned, I have never had any problem with the quallity or the service at either location. Yes, it is very pricey for what you get in the food department. My problem with Cova is their valet service and how the owner (Mr. Monsterville I believe) handled an incident that cost me a lot of money. Unfortunately disappointing – You know, I really want to like this place. I live nearby and have been a few times. I like good wine and good food, and have had lots of it over the years. I was at the Kirby location last night, and it probably will be my last. I don't really get the concept of the place - so much of the floor space is taken up by wine racks and the seating is pretty limited. Horrible Food and Service – WTF happened here? This place use to rock....now the food is subpar and the service even worse. Wine is still spectacular as usual. Where are all the friendly faces? Its always new staff all the time and the food is never consistent. Great Wine Selection – All my experience at Cova have been positive. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive. They are knowledgable about the wine sold there, not just whats on the happy hour menu. I don't generally people watch but the location and spirits make it an interesting place to watch others. In the evenings it gets pretty loud, but not unbearably or obnoxiously so, and the volume is a welcome respite from library-esp wine places. But, I wasn't impressed by the food.
