Worst place I've ever lived, and I've lived all over, because the NIMBY neighbors run the city. Police and city council do things that are illegal in the name of safety and act like it's completely fine. No regard for anyone who lives here except the handful of multimillionaires who live in the mansions directly on the beach. Racist, classist, ableist. I am miserable here and working furiously to make plans to move away as soon as possible.

Great services and rich arts and culture department
In the days of hoarding toilet paper, this was a welcome sight! Thank you, City of Santa Monica, and each of the dedicated staff striving to make our public spaces clean, safe, and well-stocked!
Well, I wish I could say things have gotten for the homeless human beings on the promenade, but Santa Monica has started locking up another block of chairs, at night. The city government has failed us. This once beautiful beach town has fallen siege to lawlessness (people shooting drugs in public), crime (increased thefts, shootings, assaults), and squalor (people defecating on the street). It needs to change now.
