Great Appetizers & Drinks The number one reason to go and vist Chang Mai Thai is their appetizers & drinks. While I think the meals served here are good, the appetizers are amazing. The appetizers are also inexpensive and will fill you up. When you pair those appetizers with a funky cocktail you end up with a combination that will be sure to keep you coming back for more.
The food is the only good thing – The food was good, just like I had heard it was. However, I was dismayed with the service. I don't mind paying a lot for food (and their food is expensive, especially for what you get), but if I pay a lot, I expect at least decent service. Our waiter was rude and inattentive. After eating, we were fed up with the poor service and wanted to leave, so we asked for our check. It took him more than 10 minutes to bring it to us, and it wasn't even busy. Wonderful food in a comfortable atmosphere This restaurant serves excellent Thai food in a beautifully decorated space in Calhoun Square. Service is fast and friendly and the staff is knowledgeable. Prices are rather high, but the portions are good for the entrees and they have a nice selection of drinks. Parking can be difficult to find in this busy Uptown location unless you're wiling to pay to park in one of the ramps. Overall, a good experience.
I have been going there since it opened – I love CMT! The staff is friendly and urban, efficient and knowledgeable. Considering I know the menu by heart, I rarely seek recommendations but I think it is one of the best restaurants in town and I am an experienced diner who goes out to eat a lot. Bravo!
Great place... – I remember checking this restraunt out when it first opened and after several years of living out of state and coming back, I'm so glad that it's still here. The food is good and the atmosphere is fun. It's great for a date or a group of friends. Reservations are definitely recommended though.
This is not it!! – Had a birthday party there a few weeks ago. The service was horrible and the food was very bland. Not worth the money at all.
Amazed it's still there – I've been a handful of times ... primarily at lunch. They should get points for consistency ... the service is always really slow and my food has always arrived cool (bordering on cold). With so many other great options in a 2 block radius, I'm amazed that they are still in business.
Spend money elsewhere – With so many other good restaurants around, including much better Thai places (esp. True Thai) I will never go back to Chiang Mai Thai. The service was awful, bordering on outright rude and the food was mediocore at best. The curry was mostly coconut milk with absolutely no other flavor or heat, even though it was rated "hot" (2 peppers). A great overall experience – *UPDATE* I'm writing this nearly 2 years after I first reviewed Chiang. Since then, I have been here on at least 4 or 5 occasion and have had the chance to sample many dishes...all good! I especially love the muslim curry! And, contrary to many other reviewers opinions, we recieved excellent service. Drinks were pricey, but really good. I will continue to go back!
