Best Thai in town – We were impressed with Chiang Mai Thai from the very moment we walked in. We asked the host if he knew if any of the menu items were gluten-free, and he handed us a special menu with gluten-free options. We were then lead around the beautifully decorred restaurant to our seat, all though we could have opted to eat outside as well. The waiter knew the menu, and was able to point me toward the vegan options on the menu. I can't stress how refreshing it is to deal with a waiter who knows the menu. I settled ... read more
One of the best meals in Minneapolis – I was a bit leary after reading some of the reviews about the service, but noted that no one complains about the food, so we gave it a try. My wife and I went on a Saturday night at 7pm without a reservation, and we were seated by 720pm. We had the fired scallops for an appetizer and the panang curry and green cuur for our entree's. Everything was phenominal. IComing off a trip from India, I had been searching for good Thai curry, and they delviered. There is nothing more that I could h... read more
Outstanding! – Visiting from New York, I was so excited to find a restaurant in which the Thai food was better than anywhere in my city of origin. In fact, I haven't had Thai this good in about ten years. Outstanding taste and fresh ingredients seems to be key at Chiang Mai. I feel so lucky to have stumbled into this place. You can bet I will come back next time I am in Minneapolis. It is worth noting my waiter Steve was also very kind and helpful. At this restaurant, everyone was, in fact.
Good Thai food excellent price – My wife and I went here on valentines day. I had called a little over a week early to make a reservation. When we got to the restaurant we were greeted and promptly taken to our seat. There were no long waits in between things. The food was excellent and we got more than we were expecting. I got enough for two meals and my wife had enough for three. What I really liked is they asked you how hot you would like your dishes and even offered to make it hotter after we got the meal if it was not h... read more
I love this place! When you want Thai food in Minneapolis this is the place to go. I love their wide selection of menu options and they allow you to choose what meat or non-meat you want them to put in your dish. This is great for vegetarians. You can ask them to hold the MSG too. The ambiance here is very nice. My brother orders the green curry dish and I order the stir frys. They also have nice vegetarian spring rolls with peanut sauce. I've enjoyed everything that I've ordered!
unaverage service – We went here on a Friday night. We were seated pretty quickly, however that's when the promptness ended. It took long periods of time between waiting for our order to be taken, our appetizer to come, then our entrees, and finally another long wait after we were done eating for our bill. The food was ok, but not so spectacular that I would want to go back to withstand the type of service we had. I would actually avoid this place in the future due to being almost ignored.
Sleek but cozy Thai Decor with average Thai food – Overall, ChiangMai Thai was a pretty good experience. Service: We were seated immediately, and our hostess was very pleasant and helped us get our young family tucked into a comfortable table. Our waitress was also as accomodating as she could be given the menu limitations re: kiddos, but was really nice about letting our kids eat some cheerios, and the milk and bananas that my husband had to "forage" for at the nearby Calhoun Square Starbucks. Food: We ordered fried tofu (a... read more
Great food, poor service – My fiance and I went to the trendy, uptown Chiang Mai Thai and the food was wonderful, but the service was the worst we'd ever had. The waiter was very snobby and it seemed like he couldn't even stand being in our presence, so much so that we did not receive timely refills. We were dressed nicely and not acting rude or out of line at the restaurant. He was very curt with us and I could see him talking with another waiter and laughing in our general direction. I was really hurt by this and don't und... read more
Managers need to read these reviews – I love the food at this restaurant, and it upsets me that I won't be going back. I've been several times and always leave upset with the wait staff and hosts. For my husband and I, part of going out to eat is the atmosphere - not just the food - and every time I've been, I've ended up just feeling put off with the way we've been treated. It's interesting too, because reading the reviews it seems as though other people have said the same thing - if I was the manager of a restaurant I woul... read more
