Cheaha State Park Located in Clay and Cleburne Counties, Cheaha State Park is the pinnacle of natural beauty and awe in Alabama. Surrounded by the Talladega National Forest, this foothill of the Appalachian Mountains holds the reputation of the highest point in Alabama. Standing 2,407 ft. above sea level, it is no wonder why the local Creek Indians named this place Chaha, meaning high place.

It’s a very nice campground. Very well maintained. The staff is very nice. The RV sites are wonderful with full hookups. And it’s really a place to be if you want to unplug from the world and just unwind.

Thank you so much!!! Renee Park Superintendent
We absolutely loved our stay in cabin #4 and the beautiful mountains and hiking!
We stopped here for a night on our way from Florida to Tennessee and it was well worth it. The Cheaha State Park Hotel was older and worn, but it was very clean and our room faced the west which granted glorious views of the sunset. Hiking is fun and colorful during the time of year we were there (November) and everyone working at checkin/the front store was pleasant and helpful. Definitely a great place to get away from it all.
We arrived the evening B4 Zeta. Awoke next morning to down tree barely missing RV and car. Park staff was there bright and early with equipment and offers to help with anything we might need. Every single staff member including Superintendent Raney treated us like family. Love the park and it’s people. Thank you and see you all again soon .
What a beautiful place to stay I’ll be back in a few months thanks guys keep up the hard work 🙌🏻always enjoy the stay at Cheaha Top Notch
beautiful park.. absolutely no internet or cell service...not good when you are on transplant list.had to walk to trash dump to ck messages. restaurant in motel totally sucked. hamburgers on table before I sat down. apparently frozen and.microwaved and hot canned beer. 28 bucks for 2 tasteless burgers. if you come to this beautiful park bring your own food.

We are so sorry for your poor experience. We are a remote destination tucked away in the mountains. Cell reception is challenged by the beautiful scenic mountains that surround the park. The old internet system was struck by lightning, and we are currently working on a new and improved internet system. COVID has thrown a bit of a curveball to all of us and our staff members are constantly working to overcome these obstacles and serve our guests. Thank you for your feedback on your experience at the restaurant. We will use th... read more
Our family has been coming up to Cheaha State Park on Labor Day weekend for almost 50 years! My Pawpaw was involved with the construction company that helped build the restaurant, cabins, hotels, and chalets! This is my 19th year at Cheaha State Park and it’s my favorite weekend out of the year! Even day trips later in the winter are amazing. between Bald Rock, the lake and so much more, there’s never a time to be bored! Our family loves it up here so much!

This is wonderful!!! Thank you!!!! Superintendent Raney
What a wonderful place to visit!!! Such wonderful memories made made a Cheaha state park. My family and I got to watch the sunset last Saturday and can I say what a breathtaking view! My husband and I are planning our own little get away there soon! Can’t wait to go back!!!
We were there last week and had a wonderful time! My boys loved swimming in the lake and us adults enjoyed the break from Covid Craziness. The bathrooms and bath houses were very nice and super clean! The camp hosts came by to say hi and gave our kiddos some cookies! We tried to hike to waterfalls but never found them. Might have been on the wrong path, but it led us to a gorgeous view! Can’t wait to go back and find those waterfalls haha! Also, stock up on necessities at Walmart on the way. There really is nothing for miles... read more
