Tasty Tapas, Awesome Mousse – Sangria, any of the seafood tapas, and the awesome white and dark chocolate mousse are highly recommended.
downtown tapas – good location-one of a handful of places in downtown chicago that serves tapas. food was for the most part decent, the prices (especially for downtown) are about the least expensive for this style of restaurant. place is large and attractive but gets very busy and long waits to be seated and once you get seated are common. more fun with a group when you're in no hurry. the often-mentioned sangria is ok; it is a good bargain.
One of better tapas place around – Food per dollars, this place ranks near the top. It has a large selection of both cold and hot tapas, and weekly specials. Food is not great, but good and consistent. No wonder it's often packed even on weeknight at 10pm, or has a 3hr wait on sat night.
Sangria – Drink lots of sangria to drown out the noise and to take your mind off the fact that the food is inconsistent, tugging between mediocre and fairly good. Basque country it's not. But at least it is not Costa del Sol. A word to the not so wise, paella is bad everywhere, so don't blame the kitchen at Cafe Iberico.
Great food and prices! – Cafe Iberico is one of my favorite spots! You have to get there early though because they do not take reservations and it gets really busy after 6:00. The food and sangria is not only great but it is cheap! Not a very romantic setting but nice to go to with a group of friends or a party. After going to Emillios and paying outrageous prices for tapas I was really happy I found Cafe Iberico.
Almost Barcelona - NOT – please. it is not even close. the food was decent and the atmosphere was good. arived at 10:57 and they said they close seating at 11, so tough. but sat at bar area and service was really good. music was authintic as i heard several songs that are popular in spain. the food was good but not authentic by any streach of the imagination, e.g., the "chirizo" was kilbasa or something, but it was not chorizo all in all. good spot to meet up and have some quick good finger food.
Almost Barcelona – With family in Barcelona, and visiting Spain quite a few times in the last few years, Cafe Iberico's is just as good as any restaurant on Las Rambals. The Sangria is just as good. although many different regions in Spain have different recipes for Sangria. But all in all, great place to meet before clubbing. Have been going for the last 4 years.
Rediculously crowded – I'd love to talk about the food as opposed to the insane wait and rude staff, but if you're going to this restaurant, there's no way to get around those issues. Drinks were decent, Sangria was good, but a 2 hour wait for a table? When I asked how much longer, I had to deal with the rudest hostess i've ever run across, and trust me, i've had my share.
Fun place for groups – This is a greatplace to celebrate a birthday or other occasion. The sharing is fun and the sangria is excellent. More authentic than other chicago tapas places. Make a reservation though - it gets crowded!
