This place is just OK. A friend recommended it so we were excited to give it a try. There was nothing fundamentally wrong with the restaurant, the service, or the food but it wasn't anything special and I can think of many places that I would dine at before this for the same price. It's a 3 1/2 star in my opinion.
The food was amazing! The soup was so flavorful and poured table side. The short rib melted in my mouth. And, the Whatchamacallit dessert was sinfully good! Our waiter, Aaron, obviously knew the menu like the back of his hand. He even got me to try an eel appetizer, which I would've never ordered in a million years. And of course it was delicious! I have dined a lot of places in Milwaukee....a lot, a lot. However, C.1880 was one of the best fine dining experiences I've had in this city.
I have never had a bad experience dining at this restaurant. The waitstaff is kind and courteous to it's patrons and never steer you in the wrong direction. The dishes at Circa are always well thought out and balanced. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone!
We enjoyed a delightful birthday dinner with four of us trying the Tasting Menu with perfect wine pairings. Each course was delicious. The corn soup was luscious as well as the crab under grapefruit - our favorite was the lamb that was delicately served as a meatball, bacon & seared loin. Our server was gracious & timely. It was our first time at circa & we will return. Enjoyed the historical prints and them of the space.
My dining experience at circa was one of the best I've had. The waitstaff was extremely pleasant and remarkably knowledgeable of the menu and the wine list. The food was spectacular! The Tar Tar is an a must get. My Lamb was cooked to absolute perfection. The Lemon curd dessert was really refreshing and delightful. I will be back very soon!
