Editorial fromThe line begins almost before the restaurant even opens. This small, unassumingly decorated restaurant knows how appealing it is since it is audaciously titled Burma Superstar. Burmese cuisine, as authentic as you can get it stateside, is…

Not all it used to be – Everybody knows about the infamous wait. A couple years ago, the wait was worth every second, with interesting and excellent food offerings. Lately, the preparation of the dishes has come across as being only average. The service has been spotty, with a lengthy wait before ordering, and dinner dishes arriving over a 10 minute period rather than all at once. The fame and reputation showered upon Burma Superstar was once entirely deserved. Lately, it's shine has faded.
Can you say over-rated? – This place is extremely yuppie and overpriced for the food they serve. We had the Rainbow salad and it had a very strong taste of burnt shallots. The vegetable curry was horrible and bitter. We also ordered coconut rice for our curry and only after the cury cam to the table did our server tell, us they did not have any cocont rice today. This was a huge disappointment...
Highly Recommended – Whenever I go to the Richmond, I always eat at Burma Superstar. I'm sure there are other good restaurants nearby, but I always end up at Burma because it's the perfect intimate neighborhood restaurant with wonderful dishes that are hard to find elsewhere. As a vegetarian I find the Superstar noodles, sauteed pea shoots with garlic, tea leaf salad, coconut rice, and samusas to be delicious beyond words. Ginger lemonade and sangria are very tasty. Yes, the service can be slow at times but the staff is cons... read more
Pretty good food but service a bit weak – I took my sister on a wed night at about 8 and we barely wiated 5 minutes to get a table. The food arrived pretty quickly and was quite good. We ordered a shrimp dish, fiery chicken with tofu and okra and egg curry. The okra and egg curry was not what we expected but the shrimp and chicken was good and had the right amount of spiciness. The only thing we were a bit disappointed with was the level of attention. We thought they could have come by to check in on how we were doing or fil... read more
the wait is INTENSE but totally worth it. if you show up and there is a massive list, just put down your name and hit the nearest bar, the staff will call you when your table's ready. the food is absoluting AMAZING! i highly suggest the tea leaf salad (you can't get this dish ANYWHERE else) as well as the spicy chicken with basil (DELICIOUS) EVERY DISH i've had there i have loved. and please save room for dessert. The coconut custard (like deep fried coconut egg rolls) topped w/ coconut ice cream is out of this world. and th... read more
Great food and great value – I mean, really. Even after all the really good ratings here, some people just feel the need to take an opposing view. Dude: did you REALLY wait 20 minutes for your entre to be cleared and another 20 minutes to get your bill? Would anyone really wait 40 minutes to get out of a restaurant? Seriously. Yes, there is in fact a long wait to get in this place - that's because it has great food for a good price. Bland? Truly, I've been to this place probably 5 times over the last year and the food is any... read more
Appropriately titled Clement Street gem specializes in stellar Burmese cuisine. – Getting a table at this Inner Richmond standout may take an hour, but it's a wait many believe the food is worth. Once inside, asterisks on the menu highlight Burmese specialties, which you'll want to stick with for their exoticism and flavor (there are a few Chinese and Thai dishes as well). The revered salads contain 10 or more ingredients each, exemplified by the wonderfully textured tea leaf version, which features tomatoes, dried shrimp, f... read more
BEWARE...overrated – If customer service is important to you AVOID this restaurant. In the numerous times I have frequented this venue, I have yet to receive one good customer service experience. In my opinion, regardless of how great the food at a particular restaurant is, when service is poor you will leave with a sour taste in your mouth. Long waits for a table, LONG wait for food -- be prepared to occasionally have the waitress forget your order if you call in to go.
Why are people ranting about this place????? – I admittedly know very little about Burmese food but have had a interest in exploring since Burma Super Star seems to be everyones favorite local restaurant. Having dined there last night I can honestly say I have no interest in further exploring the "art" of Burmese cuisine and seriously considering severing any relationship I have with those individuals who sent me there. The food is entirely bland and can be easily found at any corner chinese take out establishment. If you th... read more
