We should have looked here prior to our booking with this company in September. From the get-go there was mis-understandings, EXTREMLY poor communication; incorrect information in the rental for getting in touch with people. Renters BEWARE! I rented a house at 521 W. Beach Drive, Oak Island (Therapy) in April for a August 2021 trip (4 nights). It wasn't a cheep house, but what sold us were the 'pictures.' This review....A Better View! So, the name fits the house exceptionally well. The view is AMAZING! This company is terrible, doesn't even deserve one star. We rented a house on Oak Island, NC. Upon arriving, the house we stayed in, Pirates View, was filthy, smelled of fish, ( with fish blood in the refrigerator), had dirty towels and linens in the washing machine, had blood stains on pillows, trash left in dressers, roaches everywhere, rusty door knobs that were a danger to those walking in and out, dust on furniture, pool area outside had trash and trash in the pool itself , it was awful. Mrs. **** checked into her property at 5:36pm on 8/7 and called our office at 6:53 pm, she stated that she was unhappy with the cleanliness of the property. Mrs. **** then demanded that she speak with a realtor, our guest representative asked Mrs. **** what issues/concerns she was having so that she could assist her. But Mrs. **** would not go into detail other than she was unhappy with the property. Better Beach Rentals is a disgrace to the beach community of Oak Island. In good faith, we rented a home on the Intercoastal Waterway based on the advertisement of the home, location, amenities and their committment to sanitation regarding Covid 19. I should have done my homework and investigated Better Beach Rentals before assuming that they would be as upstanding, truthful and professional as the other rental companies from other locations that we had rented from. Absolutely the least professional staff I have ever seen- dishonest and self serving to say the least. Paid over 3000k to sleep on the floor because the bed we were sleeping in collasped- twice. Advised them of the issue and they sent someone out to attempt to correct the issue. The person attached a bungee to the bed rail hoping it would sustain the weight of the bed, myself and my wife. A freestanding A/C unit was overflowing water into the upstairs bedroom, soaking the carpet. Turns out the "3rd Bedroom" was really a large chair that converts to a single bed. The walkway and overgrown garden marking the entrance to the home was infested with fleas. When I addressed this with Better Beach Rentals, the property manager informed me that there had never been pets at the home and suggested the fleas had been brought to the home by my wife and her friend. Renter Beware! these guys rented me a home, named Oasis in Oak Island, for a month of May (2021) that was supposed to have a nice backyard and pool nice (pics in ad). They KNEW WELL ADVANCE that the pool was not available in fact - the backyard was all muddy because they were installing a new pool. The pool was not available until May 18/19th. It is unfortunate that Mr. ******* feels as he does. He did rent the property, Oasis, for the month of May 2021. His claim that Better Beach Rentals knew that the pool amenity would not be available for his reservation at the time he reserved the property is certainly not true. Due to circumstances out of the owner of the homes control, the original pools repair did not work so the home owner decided to install a new pool so that guests would have no issues with the pool. This is the 10th beach house we have rented, and by far the worst company we have rented through. We sent 5 emails prior to our arrival, all of which went unanswered. When we did talk to someone they were extremely rude and unprofessional. Said they would return our call later that day, but never did. We rented a home over Mother's Day weekend and there was construction 24/7 that shook the house, lights were shining in the bedrooms all night and the machines beeped when backing up.
