Beacon Drive Inn

4.3

About this business

Considered a regional landmark and ranked as the second biggest drive-in restaurant in the country, The Beacon is a must-see for visitors looking to eat local comfort food. This old-fashioned drive-in is famous among South Carolinians for their friendly service, Beacon sweet tea (largest single seller of sweet tea in the country) and deliciously unhealthy menu staples like the chili cheese dog, onion rings, hush puppies, BBQ plates and fried fish baskets. The Beacon has everything you could want out of a Southern restaurant;... read more

This place was nasty! Greasy food is great but this place was so disgusting. I ordered perch and couldn’t even eat it because it was so dry from sitting. Husband’s burger looked like some gray meat from who knows where. The people next to us dumped like 4 full plates of food. How does this place stay open?

Food isn’t as good as it used to be growing up and some of the employees are very rude.. we went here yesterday and they kept telling me to move on down I’m holding up the line and I was trying to order food for my kids and my order was all wrong and my burger was still pink, mind you i am pregnant and can’t eat anything undercooked!!

We loved the food and Customer Service was great. They really made my Sons 21st Birthday Great after our mishap. They really went out of their way to make up for his Birthday Cake accidentally getting dropped in the floor. Thanks to all the employees. The Cureton’s. My son said give y’all 7 stars.

Ive been goung to The Beacon sunce I was a child and they only had curb hops! The as a teenager, we used to go " cruise" The Beacon on Friday nights! I agree that the place could use some cleaning and spucing up but none the less the food is still as good as always! John White helped alot of his employees and the City of Spartanburg as well as the First Baptist Church! He was a personal friend of my family and I have fond memories of him! Is it the same as when Mr. White and J.C. were there ? No....but nothing ever stays the... read more

I have been going to the Beacon since I was a little girl. My meal was great! The service was good and the lady that fixed our banana split was very friendly. Very good experience.

I remember going to the Beacon as a child as I was born in Spartanburg. It was great. After moving back to SC,every chance I get to Spartanburg,I always go to the Beacon for hash, onion rings and sweet tea. It definitely is not the same since John White and JC left this earth, but it's always calling my name- I try never to use the restrooms though. And your shoes stick to the floor, the place is filthy and I still go back. It's sad that "the shine has worn off" for this once great place. But I 'll be there again from time to ... read more
