About this business

This is one of the finest steakhouses around Philadelphia. Barclay Prime's decor is more on the side of an uptown eatery with marble tables, comfortable plush sofas and walls lined with walnut bookcases. Order from the special menu, which consists of Kobe Sliders, Tuna and beef Tartar and the famous Philly Cheese steak. From the a la carte menu, take your pick from the Oysters Rockefeller, 12-ounce filet Porterhouses and the dangerously delicious sounding butter poached-lobster.

Fabulous food -- worth it as a splurge – Barclay Prime served up the best filet I have had in a lifetime of steak loving. And the truffle mashed potatoes were spectacular! Our server was attentive without being pushy and answered every question on que. He was a doll -- even if the people refilling water glasses were a bit reachy (ie stretched over the table rather than asking for the glass or sneaking around us). The wine list covered all the bases with good selections ranging in price from about $40 up to well past my mortg... read more

I should have been here sooner – We had heard about Barclay opening last year, but the hype over the '$100 Cheesesteak' blinded us to what Barclay Prime really is - a GREAT Restaurant. No, we didn't order the fabled kobe cheesteak, but one was served at the table next to ours - and it looked and smelled fabulous. What they don't tell you is that it comes with a half bottle of Veuve champagne - so, I guess the $100 is something of a bargain. From the moment we stepped into the Barclay, we were amazed by the understated opulen... read more

A handsome upscale steakhouse befitting Philadelphia's toniest neighborhood. – In Short The ground floor of an Rittenhouse Square apartment building now resembles a library, elegant with crystal chandeliers, marble tables and walnut bookcases. Manicured patrons are a Manhattan-esque mix of social affluents and business hobnobbers. The a la carte menu includes steakhouse classics such as oysters Rockefeller, 12-ounce filets, porterhouses, wedge salads, creamed spinach and butter-poached lobster. The main attraction is the Kob... read more

A top Philly restaurant – I have dined at Barclay four times and have been satisfied with my meal and service everytime. From the Stephen Starr atmosphere of coed bathrooms and couch like seating, this restaurant is a must. I order the featured ribeye steak as well as the to die for lobster bisque soup. Besides the food, I thoroughly enjoy picking out my knife of choice to cut into my steak. Highly recommended!

Just okay! – Went with my husband to celebrate our anniversary last weekend. As soon as the head waiter found out that we don't drink alcohol we kind of got the brush off. Never heard any of the specials. We heard him telling another table after we had eaten. The onion rolls served were a little over heated. The bottoms of the rolls were hard (as if they were heated in a microwave.) The food ordered was good. Steak was better than the lamb chops. We thought it was just a little too pricey at $190 without alcohol. This was my... read more

Yummy....my kind of steakhouse – A boutique steakhouse? Well......the beef is about as good as you good south of Sparks in NYC. Ambience is like a modern liberary with your grandmother's chandeliers above your head. Service is OK, but do not let it stop ya. There is a sheekness of criticizing this place, but Barclay Prime is a refreshing view of what my idea of a steakhouse is.

Very Expensive Nice Experience But . . . – The atmosphere is elegant and warm in both the bar area and dining room. The Staff is very accommodating. The food, although good, does not live up to the expense. A shared Ahi tuna appetizer with ponzu sauce was enjoyable, as were the sides accompanying our entrees (truffled potatoes and creamed spinach). The Signature rib eye steak (at $42) was merely good when compared to a far superior Porterhouse served at another Phila. steak house. With 2 drinks and a bottle of wine, the bill... read more

Good service, fine menu and excellent steak. – I took my husband here for his birthday and was pleasantly surprised by Barlay Prime. I was so fed up with gimmicky Steven Starr restaurants that I had my doubts, but this one is an exception. The steak was excellent and the wine list ample. The service was courteous, and the staff well trained. It is a bit of a scene, but if you don't pay attention to the stilletoed NY wannabees, it can be a pleasant experience.
