Through an alleyway and up some steps, one will be transported to something of a different era. The Back Room boasts a big mirrored bar, chandeliers and large scandalous paintings. The old, wooden, dimly-lit space includes bouncy barstools and very comfortable and inviting lounge spaces for large parties, if you can get them. Prohibition-esque booze is served in tea cups. Hey, c'mon, it's a speakeasy! Nevertheless, the Back Room is worth a visit to bring out your inner flapper.

chill bar – What's the deal? It's a popular spot! It has a fantastic atmosphere that stays true to the speakeasy times of it's heyday. Go alone or bring someone to talk to and have a good time. The place has great energy. I question how bored the other recent reviewers are.
Exceptionally Rude Staff – I used to go here a lot, but lately the staff has been exceptionally rude. They've refused to let my friends in, and have rushed us out to get more people in to fill tables. The crowd on the weekends also gets obnoxious.
Cocktails In Tea Cups, Oh my! – First went to The Back Room in its days as Lansky Lounge and it has much improved since then. The entrance is still that cool, nitty, gritty secret door way but once inside you realize that the secret is definitely out. Patrons are young, hip and cool. Place is crowded. Decor is plush- victorian and cocktails are served up in tea cups and saucers. A very nice place to catch a few drinks. Not really a dancing place more of a relaxed lounge vibe but very cool as a lounge.
Covert Lower East Side bar flies under the radar of the neighborhood's scene. – Better recognized by its nom de plume, the Lower East Side Toy Company, this tucked-away speakeasy nods its head to Prohibition with its hidden entrance, working candlestick phone and curious serving vessels, but its spacious split-level interior feels straight out of a Victorian novel. Curving settees and high-backed chairs in deep reds and lush golds are set in conversation-sized groupings, and the welcoming dark wood bar is serviced by friendl... read more
Good time but bad bartenders – The atmosphere at this place on a Friday night was fun but the drinks ended up being disappointing. I ordered the Ritz Cocktail three times and each time it turned out to be a different color and taste different. The first one was clear (and very good), the second was brownish and tasted different and gross, and the third was pink (although did not taste as bad). I didn't complain further because the bartender was nice enough to make me the third drink to replace the second, but the inconsisten... read more
Great place for something a little different – Went here on a Wednesday night and had a great time. The music was very good, and the place had an old world feel. The drinks were good and reasonable, and the bartender went out of his way to please. Where else in the city can you drink a bottle of Grolsch out of a paper bag? This is one of the coolest bars I have been to and will definitely be back.
why? – 'back room' is the only reason i've ever needed to sign up on city search. now why does this place that looks like something out of rob report have such polarized reviews here? suspicious if you ask me, especially when you consider how infomercial the good ones all come off as. why are the drinks filled to the brim with ice? why is the sound system so crappy? considering the drink prices - can't they afford decent speakers? why does this bar bother to look so classy, if they are going to charge top-scale prices for dr... read more
Watered down drinks and Crowded – This bar is not recommended, It looks like a wedding reception lounge, with it's clientele dressed up to the nines drinking cocktails in ridiculous coffee mugs. Secondly, and most importantly, the bartender cannot make a decent drink to save her life, I paid 28 friggen dollars for two grey goose and tonics and a gin and tonic, and I watched in horror as she literally put a teaspoon of alcohol in our drinks ( the cup was already filled half up with ice btw) and her only saving grace was the o... read more
Great, great time. – Ok, this is wonderful. Mostly because I was sitting at the bar when the last reviewer came to the waitress area and complained about his weak drinks. I get it, that's cool, your drinks were weak. Fine. The bartender took your complaints in stride, and brought you new ones. But here's a tip: if you go to a place on a busy Saturday night, don't be such a neophyte and order grey goose with the expectation that your choice in over-hyped vodka somehow entitles you to special treatment. Second, you were given ... read more
