Baba means granny in Russian, and this restaurant—named after the fairy tale witch characterized in an Emerson, Lake and Palmer song—has been a fixture among the art galleries, antique stores and second-hand shops in the Montrose area since the early 1970s. The menu features contemporary cuisine ranging from healthy California-style salads, sandwiches and sprouts to burgers, rib eye steaks, pastas and a spicy, old-fashioned Southern gumbo.

Ive been several times and it hasnt let me down yet. the vegetarian meatloaf is AMAZING
Bad food. – I have loved Baba yaga for a long time. However, several months ago I had three meals in a row that were horrible. I don't know what has happened to their food preparation. It used to be pretty good. My last three experinces were overcooked tune steak, fish cooked in grease that was very old, and roasted chicken that was so over cooked it was black. I really regret it, because I have always liked going there. however after three bad experiences, I don't any more. This is not just my opinion, but is the opinion of... read more
Scrumptious meals - comfortable atmosphere – All 4 of us are pescetarians, and we loved the food that we ordered. The brie appetizer with fresh roasted garlic is to die for. I LOVED my club sandwich (with "smoked turkey style gluten & fakin' bacon"), and the faux meatloaf was pretty good too. We were seated promptly, and the service was awesome!
My Absolute favorite place to get a vegetarian club sandwich in a place that has personality - and their Dilly potato salad is Ding-Dang Dandy!. In historic Montrose with beautiful old oak trees, a lush, landscaped pond and complimentary fruit on the way out - this has been a favorite of mine for over 10 years.(Except for their coffee)
Healthy choices, cool environment – Since moving to Houston, this has been one of my favorite places to visit - either with friends, business, or a date. The set-up is unique, and cozy. I covert the 2 tables nearest the front fireplace in the winter, and the tables facing the back garden during the summer. Excellent food choices, with a healthy bent. Plenty of options if you're feeling vegetarian or vegan. I understand the place has been around for at least 40 years, but was much smaller before. Well, their expansion was don... read more
Great Avacado Burger – This was my first visit and definitly will not be my last. I love the ambiance of this resturant. I visited on a weeknight for dinner and sat in the back facing the garden and cois pond area very nice and intimate. Our server was a little slow to take our order. She was attentive when she was around but wasn't around much. The food was great. The food was brought to the table in a timely manner. The avacado burger is to die for I thouroughly enjoyed it. The Mojito was not up to par there was minced min... read more
My Favorite Place!!! – If I could give this place 10 stars I would! I have been coming here for about 6 years now. I just thought I would put my two cents in and tell you how wonderful it is if you haven't been before. Food portions are plentiful and the brunch is to die for. Not only do you feel satisfied when you leave, you also know that you weren't fed trans fats and poor quality food. Healthy, nourishing and delicious food is what you will find here. The waiters don't hound you, they are discrete and helpful. Don't pass... read more
Snitty waiters – Three of my grown children and I went here on a beautiful weekday to celebrate my birthday. Unfortunately, our waiter was horribly surly and seemed genuinely offended to have to serve us. When we tried to ignore his bad attitude, he seemed to become more determined to try to spoil our time together, actually slamming things on our table. We ordered a Philly sandwich, two of the much-raved about smoked turkey and brie sandwiches, and the wilted spinach salad with grilled salmon. The brie was tiny and melted o... read more
