About this business

Baba means granny in Russian, and this restaurant—named after the fairy tale witch characterized in an Emerson, Lake and Palmer song—has been a fixture among the art galleries, antique stores and second-hand shops in the Montrose area since the early 1970s. The menu features contemporary cuisine ranging from healthy California-style salads, sandwiches and sprouts to burgers, rib eye steaks, pastas and a spicy, old-fashioned Southern gumbo.

My Favorite Place!!! – If I could give this place 10 stars I would! I have been coming here for about 6 years now. I just thought I would put my two cents in and tell you how wonderful it is if you haven't been before. Food portions are plentiful and the brunch is to die for. Not only do you feel satisfied when you leave, you also know that you weren't fed trans fats and poor quality food. Healthy, nourishing and delicious food is what you will find here. The waiters don't hound you, they are discrete and helpful. Don't pass... read more

Snitty waiters – Three of my grown children and I went here on a beautiful weekday to celebrate my birthday. Unfortunately, our waiter was horribly surly and seemed genuinely offended to have to serve us. When we tried to ignore his bad attitude, he seemed to become more determined to try to spoil our time together, actually slamming things on our table. We ordered a Philly sandwich, two of the much-raved about smoked turkey and brie sandwiches, and the wilted spinach salad with grilled salmon. The brie was tiny and melted o... read more

One of the BEST Brunches in Houston! – What a great way to start a Sunday ! Baba Yega puts on an awesome Sunday brunch, from the made to order Omelettes to the Roasted chicken , and plentiful sides, and if you have any room left, the incredible dessert selections, This is one of my favorite Sunday morning destinations...

The brunch is worth every munch! – Baba Yega knows brunch; they hang out and are great friends! Omelettes made to your selection in front of you start the brunch experience and BY's. Salmon at breakfast, absolutely. The pancakes and waffles are always great. Salad and fruit selection are enough to make even the choosiet of vegetarians sing for joy. The lunch and dinner here are not bad, but the brunch is definitely amazing! Houston is well aware of the Sunday brunch so expect to wait if you come during the rush. Perfectly lo... read more

A vegetarian's delight! – The staff is friendly and the food is prompt. The food is so fresh and there is a free fruit basket that awaits your exit, I like how the owner picks fresh cucumbers from his garden and places them in the basket for your enjoyment. Very great experience, will return again and again!!!

I bring all my out of town guests to Baba Yega! – This place has a little something for everyone, is reasonably priced, and fresh!! I have eat here regularly and have never been disappointed (and neither have my friends). The atmosphere is lovely, and the courtyard is romantic. The upstairs room is perfect for private parties. It's one of my favorites in the city!

Good vegetarian – I have eaten here a few times with my sister b/c she is a vegetarian. Now, she just loves the food, but hey, she has to take what she can get. I, however, did not find it as good as other places. If you like things that are different, then I recommend it. They just use very unusual herbs and spices for their food -- things that I would never use. That is the only reason I don't really like the place. But, like I said, if you like things that are a little different from the ordinary, then, hey, try it out. P... read more

Great food, atmosphere, deck, good value – Used to eat here alot when my ex gf lived in the Heights even now any excuse I am back. The best sandwiches-try the Fantasy, also the smoked salmon is great. Best potato salad. Outdoor deck to people watch or hang out, tiny bar area with friendly staff, wine and drinks priced resonably. Low stress whether for a quck meal or drink some wine and nibble with a friend. Located in the heart of Montrose so narrow minded dumbasses may not be able to relax.
