I rented a vehicle from Avis. 3 weeks later I received a letter claiming damage to the vehicle and they pulled $600 out of my account with NO proof given. When I called and asked what damage, I was told they didn't know what I was talking about.

I made an online reservation for a car rental through Avis as part of my holiday travels. I paid for the car rental in full at the time of my reservation. However, when I tried to pick up my car rental, the Avis customer service representative would not let me take the car, though I had proof of my reservation and proof that it had been paid for. **RENTERS BEWARE** - After our 2-week Hawaii trip at Kona I received an unexpected letter from Avis with a $279 VACUUM CHARGE for cleaning out sand in the car. We were visiting Hawaii for 2 weeks, so yes there was some sand in the car. If I would have known of this EXCESSIVE UNEXPECTED CHARGE, I would have stopped at a gas station and paid 50 cents for a vacuum and spent 10 minutes vacuuming out the sand. I used Avis in October 2020 for my honeymoon in San Diego. I pre-paid in March for an 'elite' vehicle for the week, which was a little over $500 on my 'debit card'. When we arrived in San Diego to pick up said rental, the Avis employee behind the desk said that we would need to put a $250 hold on a 'credit card' (can't use debit cards for holds). I didn't bring any credit cards because I thought I had my budget figured out and we received a decent amount of cash as gifts, so we didn't need to bring one. I would of never rent... read more

- Be careful before you book and read the fine print. If you have to cancel even if just a few minutes later you will be stuck paying a $50 charge, no exceptions. Only company to do this. -They are the only company out there that caps your mileage then charges you $.25 every mile over. Everyone else has unlimited mileage for the same price. Rip off! - You think you're getting a deal at first, then you realize they add charges the others don't and you end up paying more for much less than what others are offering.

Avis is absolutely terrible. I had to use them through the Uber partner program while my car was being serviced. They rented me a car with a battery oozing corrosive materials. It died on me, leaving me stranded in the cold. I had purchased the insurance, so I used the roadside assistance. The car was unusable for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.......the busiest UBER days. It cost me $ to work that week. Not only that, but they charged me $218 for the roadside assistance. Avoid them like the Coronavirus.

Absolutely terrible service, when you have an issue they don't respond, can't get ahold of customer service. Gave me a car that smelled terrible, dirty and when I reached out to the manager he ignored my emails over and over again. I used to a frequent customer and also considered preferred , however I don't feel preferred with the terrible unprofessional service they provide.
