The care and love for the animals is wonderful. Rehabilitating back to the wild is remarkable and provide great education on the what to do when you come across an injured bird.

My daughter and I found a small saw-whet injured on the side of the road. Avian Haven called me back quickly and sent Karen to get the owl.

I work at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor and they very quickly responded to call for a pigeon who hit one of our big glass windows and got pretty hurt. I had maintenance retrieve him from the roof and within minutes a rescue lady was here to take him. Best of luck to the bird and THANK YOU guys for your work!

Wonderful people helping to save our.birds...we are losing them I believe...In the BDN there is a question for people to answer printed everyday...today "Should hunters not be allowed to use lead ammunition? Well out of 78 responding it was just about 1/2 and 1/2...NOT enough response to talk about.. this is an important issue...there is no need to have to watch any birds die from lead poisoning...what can be done?

Last year I found 3 baby swallows in my chimney and through the internet, I found Avian Haven and with some planning on transportation, I was able to give them a fighting chance and hopefully be released to the wild when they were older. To hear that this organization has many people all over transporting birds to the facility, meant a lot to me; these weren’t just some pest bird to not take care of and these people did all they could to make sure that these babies had the best chance possible! Hope my 3 babies made it and a... read more

A mourning dove slammed into my kitchen window and Diane was so helpful in advising me about what to do. After observing the bird to see whether it could fly, she contacted a volunteer to meet me half way from our home to collect the bird and deliver it to Avian Haven for x-rays. So thankful!

Amazing group of people! Yesterday I had a little Red-Eyed Vireo fly into my front window and dropped to the ground. The bird wouldn’t move or try and fly. I coated a box with paper towels and got it to step onto a stick and set it in the box. We were afraid between the cold weather and the neighborhood cats this little bird wouldn’t survive. I called Avian Haven and they had a volunteer at my house within 20 minutes to pick the bird up. This morning I got an update that the bird is doing well and has already been released. ... read more
