dissapointed for the first time – I have been to Aqua twice before when Chef Miner was in charge - and it was some of the best food I had ever had. I went this past weekend to check out the new chef - and was very dissapointed. The food was bland and had no magical flavors. I had the ahi tuna which was served with bland vegetables and had no distinct flavor (most popluar dish on the menu). I would not go back and not recommend Aqua. Always Exceeds Expectations!!! – ...From the food to the service and ambiance. AQUA never misses. A great place for lunch, special celebrations or for a glass of champagne in the middle of the day. The food is always fresh, creative and satisfying. Regular customers are never disappointed and always surprised by the consistency of this very special place. A must for any tourist.
Save your money – Very disappointing. Waiter's with an overly important sense of themselves. Poor food recommendation. Our $200 meal was bland, with little imagination... although visually interesting. Thank god the wine was good. Sorry, attitude and ambience doesn't make up for poor cooking.
aqua caliente – I'm always worried when I show up to a fancy place with our little (2 month old when I went there) baby. See: crying babies upset customers, especially the older ones (you need some money to go to aqua). So I expect a frown on the face of the hostess. Not at aqua: they went out of their way, cooing with the kid, giving us a nice table with extra-room for him. They got rewarded with a sleeping baby, and we got rewarded with an amazing dinner. Not Impressed – I was looking forward to eating at Aqua and expected the food to be outstanding. Unfortunately, it was only average. I was very disappointed. Our server was a bit snooty, and recommended an unappetizing skate fish, which I didn't enjoy. I have no desire to go back and pay $30-40 plus on a so-so meal. This place is definitely overrated.
Aqua Delights – Chef Laurent Manrique is in the house. Dinner was fabulous. We dined on poached lobster salad, sauteed foie gras, seared sea scallops, surf and turf and the veal loin ; everyone cleaned their plates - delicious! We ended the evening with roasted figs served with lemon verbena panna cotta that I will always remember. For a restaurant on this level, the service is good and efficient but not like a "beautifully timed dance" as you may find in other upscale places. I would definitely be back.
Aqua Restaurant – The food at the restaurant was good. However, the dinner took a long time, the wine list is extremely expensive. There are plenty of places to go in San Francisco which will provide better food and atmosphere at half the price.
Food is not worth any price! – I can't recommend this place! While the reviews when Chef Michael Mina was in charge were excellent, he has since left and the quality of the food definitely showed. I ordered the seared foie gras for my appetizer and the flavor just wasn't there. I had better chicken liver at Zuni than Aqua's foie gras. My rare ahi tuna entree was too overcooked. Excellent Service – Watching the wait staff deliver food is like watching a performance. They come in teams and serve you at the same time so not one person on the table is left waiting for their dish to be served. The staffs are very coordinated and polished. The food is good, but not worth the price. I've had better.
