I had a truck back in 2005 with American Truck Group. I had only driven a couple years for someone else but I was arrogant and thought if this idiot (opinion of person I drove for) could own a truck so could I. So I got a truck and failed miserably because I did not know how to do anything but drive and get paid and spend on everything except my business. I blamed American Truck Group at first for not *helping me* whatever that means. I guess it meant bailing my immature self out of a situation I created. I would have done t... read more
Think about this, the less you can earn for your family, the more you will have to depend on the Federal government and once that happens, they have you in their pocket. Socialism lives! FMCSA’s new hours-of-service (HOS) rule reduces by 12 hours the maximum number of hours a truck driver can work within a week. Under the old rule, truck drivers could work on average up to 82 hours within a seven-day period. The new HOS final rule limits a driver’s work week to 70 hours. It also mandates a 30 minute rest period within every ... read more
The President’s regulations on the trucking industry have been a road block to job creation. A recent Pew Research Center survey found that a majority of Americans (55 percent) believe the auto industry has a positive effect on the country. The same poll found a majority of Americans (52 percent) believe government regulation of business usually does more harm than good. Against the free market and public opinion, President Obama has levied three of the most expensive regulations ever against the U.S. trucking industry. Comb... read more
As an American Truck Group customer I want my friends in the community to *get* how important this election truly is... The EPA is still conducting studies that environmentalists hope will someday justify draconian regulations on fracking. Enter Obama's Transportation Department. By suddenly reinterpreting a 50-year-old rule that limits truck drivers to 11 hours on the work site at a stretch, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has delivered an unexpected victory for environmental activists. Truckers on drilling ... read more
As an American Truck Group customer, I would like others in the community to read the following: President Obama announced the first-ever fuel efficiency and greenhouse gas standards for long-haul rigs, work trucks, and other heavy duty vehicles Tuesday, the second mileage pact with manufacturers in less than a month. The regulations call for reductions on fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by 2018 of 9 to 23 percent, depending on the type of vehicle. Trucks and other heavy vehicles make up only 4 percent of the d... read more
Final Medium and Heavy Duty Truck Rule The Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Transportation finalized on September 15, 2011 the first ever rule regulating mileage for medium and heavy duty trucks. Beginning in 2014, truck manufacturers will be required to implement “very expensive solutions” to improve fuel efficiency. The rule affects tractors, heavy-duty pickup trucks and vans, and vocational vehicles. The rule applies to the Daimler brand, including its Freightliner subsidiary. The impact will be broad bas... read more
My family has done business with the family who operates American Truck Group for close to twenty years. When the business idea changed from talking about it to actually doing it, none of the principles changed. They knew that their customer base (sub-prime) had never really managed their money well enough to sustain a lasting business. The objective was simple and any decisions were always (still are) ethically based. Again, after 20 years you get to know people pretty well. My sincere congratulations to everything it took ... read more
The mechanics at American Truck Group are outstanding mechanics. Someone told me once after the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded in 1986 that NASA had the most educated, intelligent engineers and mechanics in the world. They also had an unlimited budget and even with all of the resources NASA has at hand, something happened. It was an o-ring! I certainly don't work for the space agency, but I know that things can go wrong with my truck as it is a mechanical being used to transport massive amounts of weight. To all my fellow... read more
There are plenty of tax advantages for truckers. Glad to see American Truck Group will include them in their educational software. I meet other truckers all of the time talking about the tax advantages. Some don't seem to care (that worries me) but most seem like they had no idea that the tax code includes relief for owner-operators. You don't have to be a genius to figure them out but you do have to know about them. The IRS will not give you the deductions because you tell them you are an owner operator. American Truck Grou... read more
