I cannot believe that AARP even exists, it clearly preys on vulnerable older people. First, their car insurance plan through Hartford is unbelievable. I called to see how I could "save" being an AARP member. Their solution was for me to pay more money for less coverage than I currently had! Then I had a difficult time getting rid of all of Hartford's solicitations which came non-stop. Then came Consumer Cellular with its "AARP" savings. When I got my first bill I was paying the same amount as the previous provider and the bi... read more
I have been LIED to by AARP’s customer service. I have an AARP Rx prescription plan that uses Walgreens as their plan provider for prescriptions. On Feb 24, 2020 I received a text for an automatic refill from Walgreens in East Lyme, Connecticut. I responded “Yes” to refill the prescription on Feb 28th. On Feb 29th Walgreens’s sent me a text that the prescription is being delayed because they needed to contact the doctor for approval. The text stated that I did not need to take any action. On March 9th I went to Walgreens to ... read more
Business response:
We appreciate Mr. Jacobsen for reaching out to us at AARP regarding his concerns with customer service at Walgreens and AARP. We are very sorry to hear of the issues he experienced, and for the frustration it caused. After looking into our records, we were not able to locate a call from Mr. Jacobsen into AARP during February, 2020. Therefore, we believe he may have called UnitedHealthcare, who is the insurer of his AARP branded Medicare Prescription Plan. Please be advised that AARP contracts with providers to make products ... read more
Somehow I got setup on two auto renew donations through AARP. One on a credit card and one direct debit. I have searched and searched on their site for an option to cancel one of them and it is impossible to cancel or change auto-renew on their site. While I believe they have many benefits being a member, I am very disappointed that this option cannot be found. I will ask my credit card to stop payment on one of the donations to make one go away. First time I have ever had an organization not give you access to your own dona... read more
Business response:
Ms. Adkins - Thank you for your 10 years as an active AARP member and for your comments. To stop recurring AARP Foundation or AARP Advocacy donations, we request that members call an AARP representative at 1-888-687-2277 to process the change. I have sent you an email with specific details on your current donation status. Please feel free to respond directly and I'll be happy to assist. We thank you for your past and continued support.
I signed up for AARP in 2018 thinking they may offer some interesting services and discounts but I was very disappointed. I assume they make money from selling your information because I started to get a lot of advertisements in email and through the mail for 3rd party services. I was also surprised when I learned that they signed me up for AUTO RENEWAL. To cancel the AUTO RENEWAL that I never requested, I had to log on to the website, request my username and password again and then spend 20 minutes locating how to turn it o... read more
This is the second time i had to use roadside assistance. 1st Aggravation: Automated phone asks for your member ID, it won't understand what you are saying answering "I can't quite get that" wrong thing to do, people stranded want to give you their name and cell phone and get help right NOW. 2nd Aggravation: Their must be 2 people working the phones on a Thursday after 5pm. When you finally get thru to them at least they are courteous (they are reading from a script) 3rd Aggravation: You can't believe you have to wait 90 min... read more
These people left us without a tow in a bad neighborhood after our car had been stolen for all but an hour. The Sheriff's Deputy got on the phone with them to tell them the car was released from police custody and they still refused to tow it for us. They try to act like that's a legit reason. I bought this for the security of our 18 year old daughter and they left us in the worst part of town to deal with this on our own. Luckily, I had the cash to tow us out of there. I can't imagine them doing this to senior citizens on f... read more
AARP's website is past terrible. Signed up for the online safe driving course three days ago for an insurance discount. Thought I'd get an early start on it today. Had to put in my AARP number THREE times before it accepted it even though the numbers were the same each time. Clicked on the button in my email receipt to take me to the course. They wanted me to pay AGAIN. There is no clear route to taking the course. Even after paying, you are constantly re-routed to the payment page and can't go further unless you provide you... read more
I am utterly disgusted. My mother (a 30+ year AARP member) asked me to make a one-time donation to the foundation for her (since I'm comfortable online). I goofed (purportedly) and signed her up for monthly donations. She asked me to stop the donations after they reached a certain amount. I have TRIED to do that for TWO MONTHS now without success. I can document MULTIPLE emails and MULTIPLE phone calls---AARP customer service can't help with Foundation issues, website/websearch reveals NO LISTED NUMBER for the foundation. Wo... read more
Business response:
Our supreme apologies for the unfortunate back-and-forth you experienced in asking that your mother's recurring donation to AARP Foundation be discontinued. We strive for "one and done." That was certainly not the case with your efforts. I have reviewed the telephone calls you made and the emails you have sent --- and have asked the appropriate departments here (both at our AARP contact centers --- and at AARP Foundation) to review your experience. Your mother's recurring donation has been discontinued and we have offered to... read more
Do not book cruise with AARP Travel Center (Expedia) They do not tell you deposits are non refundable even if you cancel within cruise lines accepted cancellation policy Also customer service is horrible send you to other country with non English speaking personnel, then hang up , put you on hold, and even if you show them contract stating refund allowed within time period they do not honor it because they sign you up for flash fairs without you knowing penalty. Go right to cruise line to book AARP Travel Center has deceptiv... read more
