I had an amazing experience, yesterday, at my first falconry lesson. A bit intimidated by the birds, at first. This is the first time I have ever had a bird of any kind perch on my hand. Diego is so well trained and smooth in flight and landing that the fear quickly diminished. Our yard supports a variety of small creatures from birds to reptile that we water, feed and provide shelter for. I was gifted a beginner class here for my 70th birthday A gift I will treasure forever and I recommend everyone add it to your bucket list. This was a truly amazing experience!!!!
My daughter and I had a really fun morning with Hancock, Avalon and the humans at West Coast Falconry for the basic falconry lesson. It was a great experience and was something I had wanted to do for years. I learned lots of things about falconry, and although I realize that actually getting a falconry license will never happen for me personally, at least I can now say I got to hold a hawk! Hopefully I can participate in some more of the classes at this fine establishment.

I found out about West Coast Falconry through Groupon. It seemed interesting. Turns out, it's the best kept secret around. Great education on birds of prey and amazing up close interactions. I recommend a visit to EVERYONE!
This has been on my "bucket list" since I was in elementary school. The basic falconry lesson certainly didn't disappoint! I can't wait to go back for the Hawk Walk...
