Marginally acceptable for Breakfast, but a Disaster for Dinner – My dinner experience here was horrible. The wait staff didn't know anything about wine, in our party of six, everyone's food was either cold, over-cooked, dry, too salty, too sweet, or all of the above. My steak was well-done (a filet well done!!!!!!), and the panna cotta was rubbery, and you had a sneaking suspicion half the things they served were out of a box/can. We were one of six tables in the restaurant and the food took forever to be served. As you can ... read more
Sand, cocktails, music and a fire pit! – I went here with my uncle and his date after dinner back in early 2002. We arrived fairly early, and we were able to get prime seating directly in front of their fire pit. The drinks were pricey but strong. The sand was a nice touch, and the background music was decent. As the night progressed, the place became crowded, seemingly beyond capacity. People practically fought for seating near the fire pit as the temperature dropped. I'd recommend this as a great place for after-dinner coc... read more
W won't disappoint... – The W in San Diego will meet all expectations. It is modern, beautiful, and the employees work extra hard to ensure your comfort. Just don't forget that even if you are a hotel guest, you need reservations for a cabana on the swanky rooftop sand deck.
Avoid at all times, awful – I usually do not write restaurant reviews, especially negative ones because of the degree of impact on the restaurant's business... however after a night of stomach cramps and extreme nausea after eating at Rice, I felt indebted to voice my opinion. Not only was this restaurant incredibly overpriced ($130) for dinner for 2 with some of the smallest portions I have seen... but the food made me sick! Will never return. You're better off going to one of the small non-room-service-level restaurants in... read more
Cool place to stay – My girlfriend and I had a good weekend stay there despite an initial chilly welcome and a run-in with a rude bell hop. Otherwise, service from the bar and restaurant waitstaff was excellent. Definately try the fry bread and green beans tempura from Rice. It was also cool to have a party every night in the lobby that you can go to. The room was small but comfy and cozy. You're paying for the fixtures but there fixtures you won't find at any other hotel. Would go there again next time in SD.

W San Diego Frendly to Older People too! – my husband and I wanted to share some time with our grandkids and they suggested the W. I thought that it was going to be way too hip for us, but one we got into the hotel, it was like they were expecting us, they handled our every need, and made sure we didn't want for anything. I highly recommend!
Most Romantic Place Ever! – My boyfriend recently got back from overseas and I wanted to do somthing special for him. I called the hotel and Whatever Whenever helped me to set up one of their cool corner rooms with chocolate dipped strawberries champagne and a Taboo Kit. If you are ever at the hotel with somone you love ask for the kit...Your sure to have ALOT of fun though out the night. RICE is the perfect resturant, the wait staff was very attentive, everyone was caring and willing to help...nothing fake. as a matter of f... read more
Feel welcome. Efficient and friendly service. – If you enjoy friendly servers, large mimosas and jazzy music, enjoy RICE. We arrived just before the busy time at brunch (8am) prior to heading to the film festival. My server was so cool. She brought us flourescent orange mimosas in tall pilsner glasses, the "Hot and Frisky," and "Eggs 'n' Hash." My boyfirend and I enjoyed her recommendations. Servers were friendly, jovial, and personable. I would love to see what dinner is all about. Servers recommend reservations, although s... read more
