I want to start by saying the 1 star review does not reflect on the staff, they are beyond fantastic people. Now as far as the organization/logistics/management of the whole operation goes that’s a different story. As a quality management professional I have to give both the good and the bad. The nursing staff are very competent and friendly but the reliability for visits is absolutely TERRIBLE. Due to over-booking on the management side the VON homecare staff do not have enough time to absorb any delays (poor weather, more time needed with a specific patient, etc). The nursing staff are very competent and friendly but the reliability for visits is absolutely TERRIBLE. I was released from the hospital to VON homecare. On the first day at home, VON cancelled their first visit. On day two, I called their office 5 times to try and get a time estimate for the nurse to arrive to change my wound packing, with no luck. Staff are nice enough but what really bothers me is they never give you a time they are going to show up and that causes major stress and anxiety for me because I also get homecare in the evening and they can only stay so long before they have to leave. There has got to be a better way to do things.
The nurses themselves are usually good folk, but the scheduling and communication is abysmal with repeated no-shows and delays, and the people working the phones are frequently rude and refuse to acknowledge any wrongdoing on their end. They are fully aware their clients often have nowhere else to turn, and take full advantage, denying them the communication and basic respect they deserve.
