You know, I worked around nuclear weapons while in the USAF, and at a pretty close distance. The base hospital even had a radiation map that showed the levels of radiation from these weapons (Yes, some radiation escapes at times, they aren't perfect...go figure.) and was color coded to show average radiation exposure.
